3----------Amazing Sunday Morning Quotes--------3
1. BIDEN told "This Weak" that he has NOT made up his mind about his vote on GONZALES and MIGHT vote against him!

2. Iran-Contra veteran NEGROPONTE was asked whether the U.S. would pull out of the Iraq occupation if Iraq asked, whenever Iraq asked. The p.o.s. had the GALL to say, "We are IN Iraq at their INVITATION"!!!!

3. "This Weak" said that it was jolting for the WH staff to come out the day after Shrub talked about "spreading 'freedom'" and they said this was NOT a change of policy. Then on Saturday morning one of the actual wielders of power, Poppy BUSH, came out to say that what Shrub said was NOT a policy of "new AGGRESSION"!!!!!!

You might throw in another one, with CHEENEE telling p.o.s. IMUS Thursday that he was practically inviting Israel to take care of the little Iran mess.

3. So what about this?
In reference to quote 2:

THE Shi’ite Muslim cleric tipped to become prime minister after next Sunday’s election in Iraq has said it will be the duty of the new government to demand the withdrawal of American forces “as soon as possible”.

6. Uh-oh, Another One, But This One Is Trouble for Me
Howard DEAN was responding to a laundry list of issues facing the Dem party and the GONZALES nomination came up. He appropriately acknowledged the problems contained with his record, and then added the obligatory Dem obeissance to GONZALES's "great personal story," -------BUT in elaborating on what the "great story" was, he said, ----------he started out in ANOTHER COUNTRY and rose to the top of (whatever)...."

Uh, GONZALES was born in San Antonio, TX. Perhaps the misspeak was regarding ESTRADA who came from ANOTHER COUNTRY, albeit from an upper economic and social class.

13. Didn't Texas start out as "The Republic of Texas",
before it became a state? And many Texans still feel like they're a separate country...or should be...or did I dream it?

18. Let's Cut to the Chase
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 11:44 AM by UTUSN
1- I have never flamed or bashed good Democrats in general and DEAN in particular, so let's clear this part off the table.

2- GONZALES may well be a devilish TOOL, but he's not as old AS the devil, so he was not born when Texas was a country.

3- The real point about DEAN's quote is that he was not up to speed on GONZALES's background, therefore, "off" on what is really wrong with GONZALES (the torture and the TOOLism). It also shows a lack of connection to the coming Hispanic role, lack of "getting" the nuances of what is the difference between ESTRADA and GONZALES. He is the father of the theme of trying to connect to Red State America, and even mentioned Mississippi in today's interview, and as I recall, he speaks better Spanish than Shrub and GORE, yet he flat footed on GONZALES. This might lead to an even more flameworthy premise, whether DEAN is up to speed enough for the chairmanship he is seeking.

19. Jesus Christ....at least get the quote right before sniping
Straight from the transcript:

"I haven't made up my mind on that because it's too far out, but I'm inclined to agree with Senator Biden. I think Alberto Gonzales is a wonderful American story of somebody who started from nothing and has a tremendous career, but the torture memos are deeply, deeply concerning for any American Attorney General to have said it's okay to use torture under certain circumstances, which is essentially the thrust of those memos. That's of deep, deep concern to me."

-Howard Dean

22. S YOU can misquote Dean AND fail to cite links.....
But when other people paste an ACCURATE quote, and fail to cite a link it's somehow not? Strange.

23. Good point. One standard for all.
And I believe it was a poorly done paraphrasing, not an actual quote. Sometimes people hear what they want I guess.

24. To 22 & 23: Taking It to the Level of Impugning Ain't Right
Let's start from the beginning: Yesterday, there WAS no transcript. And I'm 99% scrupulous about providing links where there are some. AND for MOST of my record I am pretty good at hearing accurately and repeating what was said.

That said, while I have already acknowledged seeing the transcript provided, I am at a loss to explain the HUGE discrepancy with what I STILL think I heard. Saying I WANTED to hear it is not nice. That, further, said, ---------call me a conspiracist---------
I do NOT find THIS scenario totally impossible:

Geo S.: Governor, you might want to review things: It was ESTRADA, not GONZALEZ, who was born outside of the country.

DEAN: Whups. I'd like to correct myself.

It's either this or I need an ear exam. But in the meantime, you can either accept or reject my acknowledgement of the transcript. It ain't necessary to malign. And rehashing what might have been settled previously ain't gonna go nowhere either. I can see ONE "jeeezzzzus" of outrage, but proceeding to another thread and wailing, "jeeeezzzzzus" again smackest of sweet martrydom. An alternative might have been to copy and paste the previous thread and say a correction had occurred, not wailing "jeeeessssuzzzz" again and again.

25. Well if you're going to say IN TWO THREADS that Dean is innept
based on your misunderstanding, or on your insistence upon flogging him for a misstatement, then you should redact in BOTH THREADS in which you wrongfully malign Dean.

Seems only fair. Otherwise, a person could spew whatever shit s/he wanted to in, say, a hundred threads, retract in one, and call it good while the rest of the anti-dean forces use your mistakes as fodder to bash dean in the other ninety-nine threads.

It's not my responsibility to follow you around and correct your "mistakes".

8. Going further with your #2...
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 10:17 AM by Ilsa
When Russert asked about pulling out if Iraq asked, even after lying that we are there by the Iraqis' invitation, Negroponte wouldn't answer the question! He had some vague response but was noncommittal about leaving if we are asked.

9. I don't understand this sentence:
"This Weak" said that it was jolting for the WH staff to come out the day after Shrub talked about "spreading 'freedom'" and they said this was NOT a change of policy.

Aside from it being a run-on, what was jolting for the WH staff? To come out and do what?

10. It seems to happen more and more often that
Bush is either so confusing or ambiguous that someone else has to come out and explain to the rest of the world what he means. When you try to use weasel words so that you can later come back and say "I never said that", you are an ineffective speaker and an even more ineffective leader.

12. And The Voices From The Democrats/Left Were?
<crickets chirping>

I'll bet there are comparison of Bunnypants to Wilson, FD Roosevelt and Kennedy (I've been hearing those all week)...notice ALL Democrats and we all know Junior couldn't hold any of these men's jock straps.

This regime is in full hubris. They're on top now and they're about to show us what "compassionate conservative" means by destroying the remaining social structure of this country, fleecing what's left in the treasury and launching more wars for profit. 51% of the vote? Not to this crowd, they're operating like they got 75%...and the most beltway Democrats put on the pink tutus and only speak out after they've taken the temperature three times to make sure it's safe.

Biden gets a lot of airtime lately cause he's "safe"...and loves playing the cameras...rarely do you see a Feingold or Sarbanes or Charlie Rangel on these shows...just the usual suspects spewing the already approved talking points.

20. LAT Robin Wright on MTP thinks 60% of the US voted in 2004
Edited on Mon Jan-24-05 01:05 PM by underpants
Of course this was Meet The Press - featuring Russert interviewing W in 2000 and actually completing his sentences for him- and sitting next to the ever knowleadgeable Wright (I think she passes for the "left" to Russert) was ...Stephen Hayes, the cardboard cut out from the Weekly Standard.

Robing Wright was saying that the Iraqis expect 60% of those eligible to vote TO vote on the thirtieth... ~"which is the same percentage that voted here (looks to Hayes) in November so yeah that will be credible"~
