Tell me this: why does Kim Jong Il get a free pass from this administration. To my eyes, the NK situation is akin to Cuban missile crisis, yet the admin.--and especially the media--seems very blase about it. What gives?

1. nothing?
we're thinking of putting up a naval blockade of PDRK
which would violate the last of the int'l laws that we've
signed onto.

2. the question begs a question
How can you say that this administration does nothing, especially given that Bush sparked this nuclear research and development with his intemperate remarks about "axis of evil" and his calling Jong Il a "dwarf?

4. We won't go to war against N. Korea for the simple fact that
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 09:17 AM by mistertrickster
they have a kick ass army of millions. These guys proved their mettle in the Korean War when they marched into withering gunfire and died like flies BUT they took tens of thousands of our boys with them.

In short, they fight like the Japanese.

On edit--we're not prepared (thank God) to take the casualties or inflict the civilian devestation conquering N. Korea would entail.

6. Who says they are? The CIA maybe?
Sorry. I will not believe North Korea has nuclear ambitions until they detonate one. And yes. It will be too late then to do anything about it. That is what happens when we can no longer believe anything that comes from the people who should know such things in our government. Thanks Junior. Your quite a guy.

9. No money in Kim Chee.
But oil that's a different story. Iraq doesn't have Kim Chee but has oil and that makes money.

8. what would you have them do?
It seems to me that given the level of pooch-screwing Bonehead has achieved in Korea, there seem to be no good option that I can see.

10. Rummy is setting us up for the Big One over there
He's pulling all US troops back from the DMZ and Seoul - leaving South Korean civilians as NK canon fodder.

There will be a war - and it will not be a antiseptic-made-for-TV-flag-waving-yeller-ribbon affair either...

11. Just wait . . . Korea will be front and center in next election.
There will be tens of millions of dollars in political advertising spent on asking one question:

"Who do you trust more to protect you from the Korean nuclkear threat . . . Bush or (name your democrat)"

To make this work, they have to let the Korean threat get bigger and bigger until it becomes the big news in the mainstream media. Once Rove has America's attention on Korea, the campaign to show Bush as the "protector of the American people" begins.
