The road to a draft goes through an unwilling Army
Edited on Sun Jan-23-05 07:00 PM by DELUSIONAL
Even the corporate news media is running-- da draft is coming dude -- stories. Yet the GOP/Repugs I know are in denial. Something has got to give -- we have the back door draft -- Vietnam Vets are being recalled to service. Something has got to give -- Oh yes and then the fuckface in the white house wants to attack more countries.

P-I Focus: The road to a draft goes through an unwilling Army

By ERIN SOLARO
GUEST COLUMNIST

If you're the U.S. Army, how do you say, "Hell No, We Won't Go?"

By proclaiming, loud, clear and often, your opposition to the draft.

Put bluntly: The U.S. Army has no desire to be large enough to implement the Bush/neocon agenda of "cauldronizing the Middle East" or anywhere else, and it will oppose by every means at its disposal, any attempt to so enlarge it.

And it is right to do so -- militarily, politically and morally.

According to an oft-documented Vietnam legend, an anonymous Army general vowed: "I'll be damned if I permit the United States Army, its institutions, its doctrine, and its traditions, to be destroyed just to win this lousy war." In Iraq, the destruction is already well under way. But if the Army is not prepared to lose in Iraq to save itself, it is ready to remain a force that cannot prevail there, let alone invade anywhere else.

5. Good
Let's see them try to push a draft through - watch the military leave in droves.

Besides, if there is a draft, the Army could just piss off the administration and put them all in stateside support roles. That might be kind of funny.

6. This isn't really "a draft is coming" piece, though.
The article's thesis is that one of the more powerful organizations in Washington is firmly opposed to imposing a draft.

7. the army hasn't forgotten the lessons of VN
even if the citizenry has.

the military saw what can happen to an army made up of conscripts, especially in an unpopular war. it damn near destroyed the army.

8. just the THREAT of the draft on MSM will create a rush to get the

"better" military jobs, rather than waiting for REAL CANNON FODDER draftee jobs....

and a LOT of parents WANT their kids to sign up...their kids are driving them NUTS by living with their parents beyond the age of 18 (which during th 60's, it was pretty mandatory to get out of your parents house, and either go to college or get a job),....

the bush* deliberate job destruction is DESIGNED to get more unemployed young people to opt for military, spun as some kind of 'career' where you learn new SKILLS (i.e., KILLING).....

Parents will PUSH a lot of their own unemployed, undereducated kids into the military soon....under THREAT of draft (that's what happened for Vietnam....the ones who waited and actually did get drafted were killed in very high numbers, like mCnamara's 100,000)....
