"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over"
"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles.

In the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt. If the game runs sometimes against us at home we must have patience until luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."

–Thomas Jefferson

8. I don't know
But the quote offered me some hope for the future, and that is what I wanted to share by posting it. Hope is something of a scarcity these days.

2. Reminds me of this Gandhi quote also:
"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they see invincible but in the end, they always fall---think of it, ALWAYS."

7. Oh Thanks!
That is wonderful.

I keep needing these quotes that help me find some hope. This is a good one. I think I'll save it for future reference.

5. Kudos to Jefferson
I remember this quote-- and many, many more like it (from him and others). It tells me that oppression is nothing new. But people fight it, by God, and dictators do topple. I will never give in to those bastards. Ever.

Your strength of commitment is laudable and the light of your purpose shines brightly. Thank you for helping us see a way through the darkness.

10. Elizabeth Edwards
Thank you for letting me know that. It was right after the election that I settled into DU so I missed her posts. I am proud to invoke her leadership tonight with the quote. I often think of her and wonder how she is getting along.

14. How long was the Dark Ages, anyway?
More and more, I think we are entering a new Dark Ages. I no longer have faith that it's just the current crop of politicians that are bad; I think this era is rotten at the core, and the candles lit by the Enlightenment are doomed to be snuffed by the Theocracy.

In a few hundred years, maybe people will start to pick up the pieces.

Maybe.

15. This is the poem I turn to
From http://motherbird.com/hochi.html

Ho Chi Minh
Poems From Prison - Translated by Kenneth Rexroth

GOOD DAYS COMING

Everything changes, the wheel
of the law turns without pause.

After the rain, good weather.

In the wink of an eye

The universe throws off
its muddy cloths.

For ten thousand miles
the landscape

Spreads out like
a beautiful brocade.

Gentle sunshine.
Light breezes. Smiling flowers,

Hang in the trees, amongst the
sparkling leaves,

All the birds sing at once.

Men and animals rise up reborn.

What could be more natural?

After sorrow comes happiness.
