for self-employed people, some people get pensions.

5. me.....and other states' employees

school employees in Louisiana do not contribute toward SS (just in the past few years is it mandatory)...we have our own pension/retirement division and elect officers/overseers to manage it. My understanding is that many states' employees do not contribute to SS.

16. If public employees pay into both,

why can't they collect both? Or, why can't they even be reimbursed from one for just the amount they contributed? Or, why are they mandated to have to pay into both?
