17. What's with Al Franken and Randi Rhodes??
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 03:22 PM by skypilot
At the end of the Al Franken Show Katherine Lanpher mentioned that it was Randi's birthday and Al just says, "Oh God." Joe Conason was on the show and he wished Randi a Happy Birthday, as did Lanpher, but Franken was conspicuosly silent.

Cheney was appropriately attired for his inauguration ceremony.

Why couldn't he at least look like he cared about this event and give it the solemn respect it deserved.

If he's too sick to wear appropriate attire to a solemn function, he's too sick to be VP. Additionally, don't even friggin tell me he couldn't find a nice, warm, appropriate overcoat to wear instead. He's a multimillionaire, I'm sure he can afford a nice warm overcoat. Fuck that. It's bullshit and it's insulting and he did it on purpose.

48. Protocol officers are neither afraid or stupid. They have the book.
They inform their charges on who is who, related to whom, how to approach, what to say, names and ages of children, how to greet, what to wear, what not to say.

And everyone has one on foreign trips, or when they are posted overseas. Or if they don't, they're stupid.

61. Please! It's a no-brainer.
No one who has the job of protocol officer to the VP would be that stupid or that incompetent. This is elementary. And even if, in some alternate universe, one of his lackeys didn't know better, how many State functions and funerals has Cheney attended over the years? More than one could count. He knows the drill.

Even, given that Cheney's an evil POS, I don't think he's senile. He knows what's appropriate attire. No....he's giving Auschwitz victims, Europe, and the American people the finger. He did it on purpose!

Protocol officers exist to make sure that Americans are not embarrassed overseas and to keep the foreign press off our backs, to make friends and influence people.

I am sorry if it is not worth your time, but I guarantee you it is worth America's time. To disrespect an occasion such as this and the country it is held in is very serious for the image and diplomacy of our country.

I imagine the foreign press will be commenting on the stupid Americans.

-we illegally hold and torture people
-we support dictators
-we overthrow democratically elected governments
-we wont sign the land mine treaty
-we are wanting to create mini-nukes to use

This incident is perfectly emblematic of the "Diplomacy is for pussies" attitude of this administration. The chimp and all of the lesser apes believe that they are too exalted to be concerned with appearances; and if the entire civilized world just happens to find their behavior inappropriate, well they can just fuck off.

It's not knee-jerk to expect that our elected (sic) officials have some class when they go abroad.

And another thing....

I'm old enough to remember President and Mrs. Kennedy. Jackie ALWAYS carried herself with class and dignity, even in the midst of her grief after the assassination. Comes from good breeding, I suppose. And JFK, likewise.

Cheney is just a coarse, crude, gutter rat. What can we expect?

36. cheney looks very depressed in that "parka photo" and so does lynnette
One wonders if that "depression look" on their faces has to do only with their coming face-to-face with the horrendous history of auschwitz, or if in coming face-to-face with that horrendous history in auschwitz they realize that they are facing the horrific history of their 'don't care about human kind' power grab in Iraq; the thousands of killings that have been committed in his name as VP of an oil power grab administration; a sniff of the truth about who they really are .. a knowing that he is just as much a killer of human beings (fallujah, the occupation of iraq, the forced elections, etc) as hitler was...history hit the cheneys in the face... but is it that they are looking at their own murdereous history of horrors? is it their own murdering 'i will get what i want no matter how' history that is hitting them in the face in those parka pictures, i wonder.
