Bush isn't stupid.
He's crass, unsophisticated, brutal, unfeeling and elitist.

He's willing to kill for little more than political advantage.

He's corrupt.

He's vicious and vindictive.

He's unprincipled.

He will say or do anything to 'win', whatever that means.

But he isn't stupid. I wish he were.

15. The rest of the world knows. They recognize the little corporal...
they've seen his kind before.

People thought a certain Austrian was stupid once, too. Threw him the Chancellorship of Germany as a sop to keep him under control.

That didn't work out too well.

8. Of course he is stupid
as stupid as stupid can be. He misses the whole point of being alive. He is a zombie on this earth. What is life without compassion and generosity of spirit? He is dumb, ignorant, and totally fucked up. Please don't confuse his ability to connive with wisdom.

12. That isn't stupidity either.
It's an utter contempt for policy and an utter contempt for the people who read, I grant you. Bush's ability to slaughter the English language is a calculated part of his 'disarming country boy charm'. Just like his fake Texas accent (He grew up in a yankee household, for Chrissakes!).

If you think he's not savvy and capable of remembering every imagined slight he's ever suffered, you are seriously misunderestimating him.

16. Wrong, Bush is stupid.
He lacks basic reasoning skills. He lacks the ability to articulate in writing or speaking. He has a poor memory for details. He avoids facts. He has no ability to see the entire field of discourse. He is willfully ignorant as well.

In short, Bush is a very stupid man. Being stupid however doesn't preclude him from being predatory and politically clever. Stupidity didn't stop guys like Mussolini, Stalin, and Hitler from getting power. They were ruthless and single-minded and didn't care who got hurt. They appealed to the lowest, basest parts of their public. Bush has that in common with them.

21. I suppose it's a definitional thing.
In my mind that political cunning you describe is the opposite of stupid. He's been smart enough to become the most powerful man in the world, and to me, that ain't stupid.

I'm not going to argue about the lack of reasoning skills and the lack of ability to articulate or see the entire field of discourse, etc. My personal belief is that a great deal of that is an act. Hitler wrote one of the worst books ever written in Mein Kampf, but he wrote a book, and he did it by himself. He was of at least average intelligence. Stalin was by no means stupid, although Il Duce almost certainly was.

What they all had (and in the case of Bush, have) was single minded ruthlessness IN ADDITION to cunning and various other 'traits'. I won't call them qualities.

Bottom line is, Bush knows where the beans are fryin', as they say in this neck of the woods.

or rather he "ghosted" it from Hitler's talking points.

Anyway, Bush is the dumbest of the lot.

22. What's he done that was stupid?
I mean, seriously. His goal has been to be president, to remain president and to inflict his twisted version of Amurka on the rest of the world. His other goals have included destroying the Democratic Party's effectiveness, enriching his corporate friends, and keeping a vast base of R/W electorate in the dark as to what his real objectives are.

He's accomplished all of his goals.

He has had every advantage in the world bestowed upon him
and he's STILL fucked up everything he's ever touched.

In my book, I would say you would have to be pretty stupid to screw things up so badly when you've been practically given a set of conditions that would insure success to even the most simple minded person on the planet.

Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 05:51 PM by mtnsnake
In fact, when it comes to someone running ANYTHING, Bush is a fucking imbecile. Yes, he's corrupt and all those other things, you mentioned, but what makes him so dangerous is because he's so stupid on top of everything else you listed. If he weren't the son of an ex-president, he'd be lucky to be serving french fries in Micky D's.

25. I agree with you ... Bush is a cunning and cruel man -
we should NOT ever underestimate his hunger for power. He resents intellectuals. Does this character remind you of someone else? Further he enjoys seeing people suffer. Hum? Who else was like that? Bush is a world class sociopathic personality in almost all defining criteria.

Bush is far from stupid, he's viscious, power hungry and, most important, he's dangerous on so many DAMN levels.

24. yeah . . . he's stupid . . .
stupid:

1. a person who is not very bright; "The economy, stupid!"
2. lacking or marked by lack of intellectual acuity
3. without much intelligence; "a dull job with lazy and unintelligent co-workers"

if you define stupid as completely uninformed and incapable of logical thought, he's stupid . . . he's also crass, unsophisticated, brutal, unfeeling and elitist; willing to kill for little more than political advantage; corrupt; vicious and vindictive (and don't forget venal); unprincipled; and willing to say or do anything to 'win', whatever that means . . . but he's also very, very stupid . . .

27. He's stupid about real policy. He's stratefically ruthless about politics.
The press never mentions much that Bush was a longtime political strategist and hit the road with Atwater and Rove for YEARS. He's a dirty trick artist and everything that is WRONG about the political campaign system.

Yet, hardly anyone knows much about \his real persona.

28. Mostly, he's lazy
he doesn't do homework. He's ill-informed and proud of it. He lacks an inquisitive mind. He doesn't know basic geography or history. Most middle-schoolers have a better background than he does. He didn't know Newfoundland was part of Canada. He thought people in Mexico speak Mexican. And this is the man representing our country to the rest of the world. Yet, his adherents find his laziness inspiring. I wonder if they also have such low expectations for their children.
