IIRC Bremer made a huge error early in the Occupation when he assumed that Iraq infrastructure and industry were ours (Carlyle et al) for the taking. However he was wrong, we were, by default, the protectors of those resources but had no "right" to them because there was no legal entity to convey control.

After the "election" however there will be a "legitimate government" that can do our bidding, or non-bidding, as it appears they will do.

That about sums it up, let the penny on the dollar "purchases" begin.

That's the only substantive change after this weekend, or am I mistaken?

1. That's the way I see it
Once Iraq has a "legitimate" government, they invite us to plunder.

4. They have already privatized so many of the assets of Iraq
under the guise of a "sovereign" Iraq.

I believe the election is PR, both for the US and for Iraq. It is a step in having the Iraqi resistance put down or those privatized assets will not be worth much to the corporate owners.
