What is Talon News, and why does it have press credentials?
Edited on Fri Jan-28-05 09:10 PM by MSgt213
Republican activists posing as journalist.

Talon News, a conservative company whose Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent Jeff Gannon is well-known for asking loaded pro-Republican questions at White House press briefings, appears to be more a political organization than a media outlet.

Media Matters for America recently highlighted three Gannon articles that were little more than reprints of Republican and Bush administration releases; Media Matters has also noted Gannon's role as White House press secretary Scott McClellan's lifeline and Talon editor in chief Bobby Eberle's partisan political activities. A more in-depth look at Talon, Gannon, and Eberle casts additional doubt on Talon's claim to be a media outlet and raises questions about whether Gannon should be a credentialed member of the White House press corps.

Eberle is also, as Media Matters has previously noted, president and CEO of GOPUSA, a "conservative news, information, and design company dedicated to promoting conservative ideals." Though Eberle has claimed on the September 13, 2004, edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country that GOPUSA and Talon News are separate companies, they overlap heavily.

In addition to Eberle's dual role as the head of both entities, both domain names TalonNews.com and GOPUSA.com are registered to the same address in Pearland, Texas, which appears to be Eberle's personal residence. The TalonNews.com domain name registration lists Eberle's email address as bobby.eberle@gopusa.com. Articles on TalonNews.com consist of brief introductory paragraphs, followed by a link to "Read more"; clicking on that link takes you to a page that announces, "This story can be found on our #1 client -- GOPUSA!" Readers are then redirected to the GOPUSA.com site.

It also appears Gannon gets special treatment from the White House

Special Treatment for Gannon?

According to sources, Jeff Gannon's real name is not, in fact, Jeff Gannon. According to the same sources, his White House press credentials list him as "Jeff Gannon" - they let him use his pseudonym -- even though married female reporters, who use their maiden name professionally, are given credentials with their married name and aren't allowed to be credentialed under their maiden names...

...not sure why this isn't clear, but the point is that he's allowed to be credentialed under his professional pseudonym even though women whose "professional pseudonyms" are their maiden names aren't.

4. Love the idea. I want to set up a blog, but when I tried before
I couldn't get it to work. I tried every variation on the name of my newsletter, Liberty Belle Log, but it seemed everything was taken. I think I might have signed up long ago and had my computer crash before finishing, but your system now thinks the name is taken when it really isn't.

Can you help?

I'd like to use the sign-in name LibertyBelle and have a blog page for the Liberty Belle Log.

Thanks!

5. Jeff Gannon is a FReeper. ... ... Literally
He is a memeber of FreeRepublic.

Get ready for a day when all "news" looks like this, either journalists who are paid off by the government or polticially active GOP creeps posing as journalists, asking padded questions and pushing White House talking points.

That day is not far off.

7. Not only do folks like Gannon promote the WH agenda
some of these sites are primary sources for the 'noise' that gets Homeland Security to issue alerts.

A lot of the info about terrorists come from so called 'terrorist' experts who start this stuff. Their articles and writings get quoted as gospel and when the alert turns out to be another false alarm, the media refuses to try to find out who actually generated the noise.
