I have a feeling that Allawi will "win"
I think all the arrangements are in place to produce a victory for Fat Man Allawi. And if he is "elected" it will be an even bigger sham election than the Baby Bush's selection in 2000. At least Bush had a base of grass roots support in the US. Where is Allawi's base of grass roots support in Iraq (outside of the Green Zone that is)? Does he have any kind of a following among rank and file Iraqis? Then we'll be told that the occupation is supported by the silent majority (that term will be resurrected from the Nixon years) and the neocons will claim vindication. Then, of course, the American troops will never leave.

If I thought this was a legitimate election I'd be rooting for the most radical Shiites to win, for no other reason than that they would order the American troops to immediately leave.

1. well let's see... Allawi has spent $4 mil on his campaign, and
the other candidates have to talk to their followers in secret for fear of being killed. Yes, I think he will probably "win" too. What a perversion.

2. They are not voting for one man. It's a counsel they are voting for.
He may be elected as a memeber of 200 some council persons.

3. It Doesn't Really Matter
Teh U.S. will allow Iraq self-determination, and self-government, SO LONG AS the U.S. APPROVES of their choice.

If not, then we will just clean house again.

Our boys are gonne be there for a long, long time.

Folks, face it...Iraq IS Arabic for "Vietnam."
