FOX/CNN are FLOODED with propaganda about Iraq.

Especially CNN.

They're doing long segment about things like Iraqis voting in the U.S., a wounded soldier who's proud that she was able to fight in the "war on terror", the high security in Iraq(basically "Martial law"), etc.

And they keep flashing the time in Iraq-currently 2:25 a.m.(hell breaks loose at 7:00 a.m.)

American citizens who have never set foot in Iraq are eligible to vote. The only criteria is that they have a parent from Iraq.

Most American citizens cannot vote in elections from their ancestral home. Would you be able to vote in an Israeli election if you had never set foot in Israel? I don't think so.

but she just kept going on about how happy everyone is to be voting. Don't get me wrong, I want them to vote, but the truth is most of them would probably be willing to give up the chance at voting if they could end the occupation and get there dead friends, family and neighbors back.

I pretty much have a moritorium going on cable news. I think my blood pressure is going down and I'm getting a lot more work done.

I really hope things work out for the Iraqi people. Not real optimistic about it but there's no turning back now so I hope for the best.

these "feel-good", "upbeat" stories about Iraq. How exactly do they find these soldiers who've had limbs shot off and who proclaim that they want nothing more than to return to fight alongside their units once again in Iraq? I know now how Hitler managed to brainwash German--he had the full support of the media, just like $hrub does. Wonder how big the check was to CNN to run this crap and how much Faux gets!

It sure seems like we have some weird version of state sponsored television news. If this doesn't go well though, there will be no way to really cover it up. The international media won't let it go and they sure won't cover up BushCo's dirty work.

I often wonder how far Hitler would have gone if there had been the Internet. Certainly more people would have known the full extent of his terror. Would it have made a difference? I honestly don't know. Certainly Vietnam became less and less popular as the news came out and the body counts increased. I only hope it doesn't take 58,000 American dead and 3 million Iraqi dead before we stop doing what we're doing.

No one seems to notice that the "coverage" of this great free election can't be done on the streets. All these "live from Baghdad" reports are on a hotel balcony. None of these "journalists" is out on the killing floor. All they do is give propaganda reports.....

On the other hand, the fact that they feel compelled to go so over-the-top with it really shows how desperate the pro-war crowd is getting. They're not just going for aggressive spin anymore, they're going for total propaganda carpet-bombing. People are waking up, and the only response they have is to crank the propaganda machines up to eleven.

The Repukes on other boards (not Free Republic, I don't go there either) are filled with an overwhelming joy at the momentous significance of this day for the Iraqi people. They are swelled to bursting that finally, the clarion of freedom and democracy rings all the way to the cradle of civilization, Mesopotamia.

And on and on like that.

Iraqi Sunnis and Iraqi Shias? If you're an Iraqi Shia living in the south, you probably ARE happy to be voting, becuase for the first time the Shia majority is going to obtain power and begin putting in place a Shia-dominated, fundamentalist, pro-Iran government. How this is good for the United States, I would like to know. Basically, we have sacrificed 1,400 soldiers, hundreds of billions of dollars, and a hundred thousand or so Iraqis all for the purpose of expanding Iran's influence in the region. Beautiful.

If you're an expat, I'm sure this is all wonderful to you too. Since you don't have to live in Iraq.

If you're a Sunni, this election is your worst nightmare. It's payback time, and the days of wine and roses are over.

And if you're a Kurd, well, you probably can't wait for the Sunnis and Shias to start ripping into each other so you have another reason to break away and create a sovereign Kurdistan, which the Kurds in Turkey will want to be a part of, thus further destabilizing eastern Turkey. Beautiful.

The most likely result of these elections is all-out civil war. There is no way the Sunnis are going to accept democracy this soon under these circumstances, and there is no reason for the Shias to be patient and tolerant of the Sunnis, given the history.

I have also noticed how ABC and NBC have used Peter Jennings and Campbell Brown (currently stationed in Baghdad) to deliberately focus on positive reports and play down negativity even though they can only go out in helmets and bullet proof attire under heavy U.S. escort to very limited safe areas in covering Iraqi citizens. Campbell Brown even talked about what seemed to her like an absence of violent incidents occurring, even though I heard later today about the most recent bombings.

Pat Desmarais rah-rahing his callers to explain how it's great that Iraq is now "free" to vote.
