3. The country's diplomatic beachhead doesn't come cheaply
Browning estimated that it cost nearly half a billion dollars to keep the embassy operation going for the last six months of 2004.

4. How the hell is an embassy going to be that expensive...
Is it going to be an embassy, or a "Pentagon 2: the sequel!"?

8. Although it's in one of Saddam's old palaces
I'd imagine they thought it just didn't have ENOUGH cheesy golden fixtures. They must be adding some gold tiles to the floor, too.

And breakfast nook. A nice, solid gold breakfast nook.

:puke:
I can't help but think of all the education, healthcare, food, clothes, and other truly positive things that could have been accomplished with that money.

7. ok . . . lemme see if I have this straight . . .
we invade the country and destroy all kinds of modern office buidings and even a few perfectly serviceable palaces . . . and then turn around and build a $1.5 billion embassy? . . . someone needs lessons in fiscal planning, at the very least . . .

12. That's because it's really a military base installation under
the disguise of any embassy. They are planning to be in Iraq a long time unless we can get our emperor impeached sooner if not later.
