7. He and Gonzales are old friends
Which is probably why.

His constituents need to pressure him. This is a very important vote and I and most Democrats will be pretty upset if he votes for Gonzales.

That said, I'm not quite as vociferous as most DU'ers - I'm willing to give him some time before I make a full assessment. He's a red-state senator and as long as over the next few years he doesn't do a 180 and become a new Ben Nighthorse Campbell or - worse - a Zell Miller-type I'll give him some benefit of the doubt.

4. Al From said in an article about the Salazar victory that
We could learn a few things from how Ken Salazar did it. Do any of you agree here?

6. He is a new Senator,
isn't he?

It would seem to be appropriate for him to defer to his peers in this matter... if such is the case.

10. This People just e-mailed him
asking to go along with the caucus and reject Gonzales, no matter what.

And I also made a comment referring Gonzales as Himmler.

12. I can't believe I sent this guy money....
last week it was Obama voting for rice...he "had" to cause she is AA. Now kenny "has" to because gonzales is Hispanic. Wish I had known these racial rules before I sent the check. I thought I was helping Democrats, silly me. Also wish I had known that these guys are "new" and need some breaks, and "to give them a chance" while they DINO away our country. Can you imagine a freshman repuke senator going against his party? Forgive my poor memory but would you name just one repuke doing this on an important vote. We are trying to demonstrate party unity against torture...don't they get that it's bigger than them?

14. well stated..
a freshman repub would never vote against party lines, and the fact that people are more than willing to cut these newly elected Senators some slack is just one reason that the Democratic Party is in its death throes.

13. My email to Salazar:
Contact Ken Salazar online at http://salazar.senate.gov/contactus.cfm

Here's my note to him:

Alberto Gonzales was the driving force behind the Bush administration's effort to legitimize torture. The horrors that have been committed in our names, and that continue to be reported on nearly a daily basis in Iraq, Afghanistan, Guantanamo, and elsewhere are a moral stain on this once-and-future-great nation.

The rest of the world now looks on American claims to moral leadership with incredulity and disdain. The thugs in the Bush administration, with Gonzales in the lead, have destroyed our nation's credibility. Many current and former military officials publicly object to Gonzales' nomination to the post of Attorney General, because his trashing of international law has made our own troops less safe in the world.

A vote for Gonzalez is a vote for torture. Support our troops, support our moral values, support our Constitution - and oppose Alberto Gonzales!
