Bush's speech tonight
We already know what he'll say:

--Social Security is in crisis and turning much of it into a guaranteed income stream for Wall Street (while also borrowing up to $3 TRILLION over the next 10 years and cutting promised benefits by 25%) is the way to fix it.

--The elections in Iraq make the war and occupation of Iraq (which will cost us $1 trillion over the next decade) all worth it. He'll forget to mention that his stated goal for going in was to destroy "vast stockpiles" of WMDs that were never there.

--He'll probably repeat some of the scary, neo-imperialist themes he outlined in his bizarre inaugural address. He'll say that it is our mission (from God) to bring democracy to the world by force. But don't worry, we won't be drafting any white kids or raising taxes in order to do it. We can just turn our current soldiers into lifers (whether they like it or not) and borrow money like there is no tomorrow.

--And, oh yes, if you don't like having an attorney general who favors the use of torture, it must be because you hate Hispanics.

1. Welcome to DU detroitguy
:hi:

Good summary. This will probably rank up there with the least watched SOTU in history.

5. the Dumbya Drinking Game
http://www.drinkinggame.us/

"Mr. Speaker, the President of the United States..."

The general rules of this game are no different from any other drinking game. A drink is either a shot or a good gulp from a beer (or cider). Different events call for different numbers of drinks and all you do is watch the speech and play along. If all goes well, you'll be unconscious by the time they show the other party's response.

7. forget what he says, just drink when everyone stands and applauds
As unenthusiastic as Democrats will look doing it. SOTU looks like such a bizarre parliamentary ritual anyway.

If you drank enough, you'll be especially venemous, loud, and rooting when Reid & Pelosi give their rebuttal.
