It's great to see the Democrats united
on Social Security. They never unite for ANYTHING and I was really depressed when they allowed Bush to destroy Medicare. Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and Civil rights/voting rights are the Dems crowning achievements and we should NEVER allow the Republicans to touch them.

2. Is it hubris?
I don't get it. Were the propagandists in the WH so sure that the Dems would roll over and let the SS phase out slide through? Is it some deeper calculation?

When Bush claims that he'll "take it to the American people" (or some such nonsense) does he really believe that we're just going to let him gamble away our future ability to house, clothe, and feed ourselves?

I'm almost stunned, because this is on the eve of Dean's election to head the DNC. Are they trying to lose?

3. Guess where they went today....
While the dems were all busy with Gonzales, the Prez & his enterage went to North Dakota and Montana on Thursday and Nebraska, Arkansas and Florida on Friday.

Why these states? What do they have in common? Well...
They are all "red" states that Bush won. And they all have Dem senators coming up for re-election.

"Takin' it to the people," huh????

Guess who flew with him on Air Force One to Fargo, ND today? Why Kent Conrad, the Dem Senator from North Dakota.

Guess that's why he wasn't around to vote on the Gonzales nomination.
