46. Statement on the Bush Blacklist for Fargo
In response to reports out of Fargo, North Dakota that dozens of citizens – including the producer of Democracy Radio’s The Ed Schultz Show and an elected city commissioner – had been banned from attending President Bush’s speech today, I released the following statement:

"News of the Bush blacklist of dozens of citizens from a Fargo, North Dakota speech is as frightening as it has become routine for this Administration. To blacklist a local citizen because he produces a radio program at odds with the political agenda of the White House is dangerous for Democracy.

This Administration cannot promote freedom and liberty abroad while banning our most fundamental freedoms here at home. The pattern of stifling those voices that do not represent conservative orthodoxy has chilling implications for our Democracy.

49. A Few Good Men
Col. Jessep: Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

I love this flick.

55. I've been saying that for awhile Mike.
Whatever you want to call this state it's true name is Hell. We murder whole families while they sleep at night (if they can even sleep). We ignore the rules of the very Earth! We destroy everything in our path, no matter how small or old or fragile or significant....and we applaud ourselves for it. Calling this Hell is more than appropriate. It is the Truth.

65. Is there anyone that's not a criminal or sleeze in this
administration

Elliott Abrams, who pleaded guilty in 1991 to withholding information from Congress in the Iran-contra affair, was promoted to deputy national security adviser to President Bush.

Abrams's 1991 plea stemmed from the congressional inquiry into the Iran-contra affair during President Ronald Reagan's administration. On Oct. 10, 1986, Abrams, then a State Department employee, testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that he did not know that Marine Lt. Col. Oliver North was directing illegal arms sales to Iran and diverting the proceeds to assist the Nicaraguan contras.

His name surfaced last year as part of the investigation into who leaked the name of a CIA operative whose husband publicly disputed Bush administration claims that Iraq tried to buy uranium in Africa.

83. I would eventually use them.
Right now I have two 120 GB drives and three 80 GB drives in the studio, and two 80 GB drives on the remote server.

So, I don't need drives right now, but eventually, I'll need to replace one of these.

93. Elliott worked for the "Ethics and Public Policy Center"
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 01:10 AM by Cell Whitman
That was his credential when he spoke to this Moon front group. Moon's Coalition for Religious Freedom's job is to keep a wide swath when defining and protecting religions. Got to give the moonster plenty of elbow room. (I don't believe Moon is a religion, personally)

Elliot Abrams comes by to talk about "North America, Latin America and Religious Freedom."

Brazil Religious Freedom Meeting Finds Common Ground for ‘New Millennium’
The Brazilian embassy in the US and other countries at first declined to issue any visas for the conference, claiming that the ICRF, because of its open and proud association with the Unification Church and the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, was suspect. ........
Sunday morning began with an optional interfaith worship service, followed by breakfast and a morning plenary session. Featured speakers were Mr. Dong Moon Joo of the Washington Times Foundation, who spoke on "Religious Freedom and World Peace" and Mr. Elliott Abrams of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington DC, who addressed the topic "North America, Latin America and Religious Freedom." Both talks were greeted with great enthusiasm by the participants.

"The most essential freedom of all is the freedom of religious conscience--the freedom to worship, to believe and to practice the faith of one's choosing," said Mr. Joo. "Without religious freedom, the freedoms of speech, of the press, of association, of movement and of the marketplace are incomplete, and ultimately impossible."

Mr. Abrams, who formerly served as the U.S. State Department’s Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, also emphasized the central role of religious freedom as a fundamental human right: "Religious freedom came late to the world. It was far easier in many cultures to allow some freedom of movement, of political speech, of voting rights, than to allow people to believe what was seen as ‘error’ and as sin. But today we have truly realized that religious freedom is an essential cornerstone of all human rights and all freedoms. If men and women are deprived even the ability to worship their God, and to raise their children in their religion, we can be sure that no other freedom is safe."
