I was reading in the paper this morning about how all of the Senate Republicans voted for the noticeably un-American Alberto Gonzales for Attorney General, with most Democrats opposed. Then I read about how no Democrats favor the president's ridiculous, un-American Social Security plans - only Republicans. This pattern repeats in other stories - Democrats want to eliminate voter fraud, Republicans want to let it lie, etc. etc. HERE'S MY DISCOVERY. If you read these articles to yourself, substituting "American" for "Democrat", it suddenly all starts to make more sense. You end up with sentences like these from this morning's Columbus Dispatch: "Americans and a few key Republicans warned that personal accounts would push budget deficits to dangerous heights..." "Six Americans joined the Senate's Republican majority in supporting President Bush's choice to head the Justice Department." See what I mean? Talk about framing!
