Thanks Gavin!
Just heard Gavin Newsom on KFOG this morning talking about how last February, though it proved difficult for him in many ways (backlash from conservatives AND members of his own party), was one of the most moving times of his life.

He mentioned feeling this tugging on his pants, so he looked down and there was this little girl crying.

He said, "Are you OK? Is everything all right?" She just gave him a big hug, and said "Thank you for giving me two mommies."

I could feel tears pricking my eyes. How can you not love a guy (and a story) like that?

I'm so jealous of you SF folk!!

4. I heard about that too!
KFOG is my connection to progressive culture.

Living in the belly of the beast down here, I have to have SOMETHING to convince me that human beings are still relatively normal SOMEWHERE.

5. Great site!
Once you get past the hullabaloo, is about fairness. That explains why Mayor Newsom refuses — just as we all should refuse — to put a political value on a moral imperative. What matters here? Not the criticism or the politics, but rather that fairness to our fellow Americans always makes sense.

I signed the petition too!

7. Gavin Newsom - freedom ninja
ok ok I know, I am gushing here but here is my story about gavin.

I am a registered green and the green party came down close to winning the mayorship here in sf. That would have been the biggest political victory of the green party yet.

I gave money, volunteered, voted TWICE for gonzales as it was so close between him and Gavin that there was a run-off vote.

So I was skeptical of this guy, this Newsom character. After all, the democrats spent 8 million on his campaign where as the green party spent about 600,000 bucks.

but I am very very impressed with him. Gavin makes me think twice about the democrats. He is a stand up guy the democrats could use and use well!

6. Now's the time for a confession...
I voted for Matt Gonzales in the Mayoral election. I really bought into the whole "Gavin is a self-serving, big-business protected rich guy who loves his image" thing. I didn't even try to give him a chance.
Well, wasn't I proven wrong? I had that whole distrust thing going, and he turned me around on it. I want our Mayor here, but if he can keep doing these things elsewhere, we should loan him out!
I'm happy you posted this story. I was wondering if he knew how happy he has made people here just with the marriage thing. He made people happy by letting them be together. Such a simple thing, and look what it did.
