Should Bush kiss other men?

Bush apparently kissed Joe Lieberman on the cheek after the State of the Union Address.

During the 2004 campaign, Bush kissed John McCain on the forehead.

If a colleague kissed me, I'd be like what-the-hell?

Heh...they never got a clue during the primaries, either, when REPUBLICANS polled about which Democrat running they could vote for chose Joe!

I'm not insecure about that kind of stuff, so let the Shrub do what he wants. If I was kissed in a way other than on the lips by another man, I would be cool with it.

Of course, I was propositioned once by a guy who wanted to kiss me on the lips, and I was flattered, though I declined because I am straight. I'm just too damn liberal, I guess.

and demeaning to the other person and the office of president. there is something very wrong with a 58 year old man who kisses people...in the real world where i live, he get the shit knocked out of him or be brought up sexual harrasement charges..but it`s george`s world where the reward for service is a kiss on the lips or cheek...

Bush is a master of the subtle - and not so subtle - tricks of physical intimidation. It's all good ol' boy slaps on the back and elbow tugs and hair tousles, but it's meant to assert domination, not friendliness.

Joe and John are now putrid zombies like Bush, Cheney, Rice etc. They will want to feed of murder and death just like their superiors.

Regardless of sexual orientation. If guys want to walk around arm-in-arm or holding hands, more power to 'em.

Admittedly, in a male of George W. Bush's age group and socio-economic background, it's not something I've seen happen that often. I can't imagine my dad doing anything other than a congratulatory handshake in that situation (Dad's in his 80s and rarely even kisses his wife in public, though at home they're affectionate).

So at an official function, on national TV, it's kind of surprising. Though, as it seems to be more of a "power display" in Bush's case (he seemed to be grabbing the back of Joe's skull as he did it -- and I've seen other photos of him making the same moves) it makes more sense in that context. He seems to like touching people a lot, but doesn't appreciate it if someone else tries the same thing on him.

That's the only reservation I have. I suspect that he's not doing it because he likes people and is glad to see them -- or even smooching out of a sense of duty ("Oh, I guess I have to plant one on Grandma and Grandpa). Rather, it's "see what I can do to you, and there's nothing you can do to prevent it" -- which is creepy even if he's just patting you on the shoulder.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of social kissing -- but if it's going to happen, I think that my boyfriend should have to be "in the line of fire" and not just us wimmenfolk.

Honestly, there was something decidedly coercive/dominating about that kiss he gave Lieberman. B/t that kiss and McCain's groveling embrace, why do I feel more than a little queasy?

It's been a bit rough here the last few days, but this thread had me screaming and not in my usual way (when I accidently hear the MSM and it's all I can do to keep from bashing in the tv).

My read: it definitely looked like the kiss Godfather Pacino gives his "brother" before the little fishing trip.

It's not appropriate to kiss colleagues, but it should make no difference what gender the person is.

If it was me, I'd pull back right in front of the camera!
