My head is exploding re: Iraq war
OK, check this out. We accuse Iraq of having weapons of mass destruction, such as chemical weapons and possibly some kind of proto-nuclear weapons.. We invade them using such chemical weapons of mass destruction as Mark 77 (napalm) and depleted uranium, which kind of but not really sort of simulated the effects of a dirty nuke.

Subsequently, we find out Iraq didn't have an electrified piece of dog shit to throw at us.

It turns out that they didn't have any of the stuff we accused them of, and we actually used all the stuff we accused them of having in the course of our invasion.

I think my head is going to explode.

1. And now, we're moving on to Iran
with more of the same, unless Bush decides to nuke the Iranians. That would be a step above Mark 77.

2. Ah ha! So the missing weapons are in your head!
Next thing you know you'll have foreign troops poking around inside your skullcap.

Seriously though, you need to relax. After all the Rapture is just minutes away!

4. Wasn't it adorable that the Dems ran a pro-war ticket?
The Kerry campaign never made an issue of the non-existent WMD, nor of Abu Ghraib, nor of the use of depleted uranium weapons. Thus, they HELPED prevent the American public from understanding that what the US has done in Iraq is actually a horrific war crime.

Does anyone here understand what a fantastic betrayal this was? The Kerry team treated anti-war Americans (including most Dem voters) more harshly than they treated Bush. There are important conclusions to be drawn from this. Is anyone willing to face up to this?

yes, actually.

Most (all?) of the anti-war faction did. That's why there were protests at the Democratic convention as well as the Republican. (And Kucinich was the only candidate to talk with them - the protesters, that is).

8. Winston vs O'Brien
It's like the scene where Winston's on the torture table desperately trying to see five fingers where there's only four, and eventually, O'Brien just blasts Winston with so much pain that he finally, truly, sees all five fingers.

It's incredible. I can only see four. I wish I could see five. I'd go back to seeing five if I could, but something happened and I only see four. Almost every single person I know walks around seeing five.

9. I agree. Our Congress was complicit because THEY want to steal
the oil too. Traitors like Feinstein, whose hubby made a 500million dollar contract in Iraq.

It's a corporate government and they want to control the ME. It will fail.

11. This is one of the main reasons I'm now Green
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 06:48 PM by deutsey
I registered as a Dem back in '84 when I was old enough to vote and have been an ardent Democrat until 2000...then I began to falter when the Dems let Bush steal the election...then I grew disgusted with the 2002 elections and the way the Dems rubberstamped the Bush agenda with hardly a peep of effective protest...then Dean's grassroots campaign kept me engaged long enough to see the Dem apparatchiks help kill the movement...then I watched in disgust as Kerry ineffectively ran against Bush...

Then I registered Green.

Hell, we might lose on the presidential and congressional levels (check out the state and local successes, though!), but at least we lose while trying to offer a real alternative to the Republicans. The socialists and anarchists who worked in vain from the 1860s to the 1920s ultimately helped to influence national policy for the Dems from the New Deal in the '30s to the '70s.

Take the longview, people. Take the longview.

10. no more rape and torture rooms
this was the most astounding in hypocrisy. at the hieght of the torture rape story bush was campaigning saying how maybe no wmd's but at least the iraqi's didnt have to experience the rape and torture rooms. i just sat there with mouth hanging open as no one challenged him

force to vote or food taken away

yes, bush has done the very things he pointed at saddam for

12. hey! you forgot the BEST part: the reason they invaded with such
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 06:56 PM by Gabi Hayes
impunity is PRECISELY because they KNEW how weak their defense force would be, ESPECIALLY the air force

why do you think they'd been flying all those missions over the nofly zones? they knew damn well that Saddam had almost no airforce whatsover

with total air superiority, it went even FASTER than they expected; that's why they overran their supplies again and again

they just didn't bother to pay attention to those who forecast the response of the people to their heavy handed occupation
