What's happening with Randi?
I only caught a few minutes of her show yesterday and she was talking about having to go in to surgey in a couple of weeks. Is everything okay?

2. OK, this isn't meant to be sexist.
I suffer from pretty severe PMS every month. Can fibroids be causing Randi to have mood swings? I am not sure what effect--if any--they have on the human body. Every month I experience severe PMS and for some reason I'm still caught off guard. I get depressed, pissy, etc. and then when I look at the calendar I go, "Oh! Okay!" Knowing what is causing some of the mood swings helps a little, but it doesn't take care of the basic problem which is a hormonal imbalance. I still feel depressed and pissy.

I stopped listening to Randi because of the way she treats callers on her "off" days. She's obnoxious and I don't like it when radio hosts talk down to their callers, especially when the callers are friendly progressives. I can tell Randi is irritable. But hey, O'Reilly and Hannity always sound irritable.

Now this is sexist: I used to say that women were ruled by their hormones once a month, whereas men were ruled by their hormones continuously. So, please, I'm not ragging (no pun intended) on the female thing. I do the "female" thing myself and it isn't easy when one's hormones are going berserk.

Other than those horrible phone calls, I find Randi witty and funny. But the way she treats ordinary callers--even those who agree with her--turns me off big time. I know I certainly couldn't deal with phone calls day in and day out because I hate telephones. And that has nothing to do with hormones. I just plain hate talking on the telephone. Maybe she shouldn't take calls...or only take them on days when she doesn't feel like tearing someone a new one.

3. I don't think that was sexist.
What would be sexist is not acknowledging that some women have horomonal imbalances at certain times of the month - like that guy who said that women gaining weight just before their period is a myth. :eyes:

But, in all honesty, I don't know the answer to your question, at large. I rather suspect that fibroids could cause all kinds of problems of this nature - but, in Randi's case, do we know the fibroids are of the female variety? People can have fibroids in several different organs.

4. I'm with ya!
I’m not making excuses for Randi, but I think I would go nuts if I had to speak to some of the people who call her show. Your right, she is very angry in general and it affects everyone, callers and listeners. I have only listened to her show a few times and I am not a fan for the same reasons that you have raised. I got really offended one time when she did not allow a progressive to quote a Bible passage to make a good point about the hypocrisy of the republicans. I think that’s what did it for me. The more Bible passages we can throw in their faces, the better. Sometimes it is the only common ground we have. I hope her surgery goes well and I wish her a speedy recovery.

12. Your point is well taken...
I like Randi if only for her balls, not her interpersonal skills. At the same time, I deal with assholes, whack jobs, liars and idiots every single day at my work. Difference, of course, being, that she is there to do exactly THAT. I am too, but I am paid for being conciliatory and finding equal ground. She is paid for picking at the scabs who call in. All of this to say that she's become a shock jock (albeit a damned good one) but some of us in the choir see it as a bit much and contributing to the polarization.

5. i think that randi does not suffer fools easily
and yes, some of them are OUR fools.

but, and this is still my opinion, randi takes calls to further the debate.

yet every single call starts out in the "love ya, randi" mode, going on about how great she is, important she is to us, etc.

i don't think randi is comfortable with that.

by the time the caller gets through that, randi is saying "do you have a point here?", which does seem condescending, especially to a fan.

then again, randi doesn't appreciate callers stating opinions based on faulty logic, so she corrects them, which again can seem condescending.

all in all, i'll take randi any day i can get her. she IS our biggest asset, and we should be proud of her. if she says something, she has the facts to back it up, otherwise she will state so.

as far as her health, i believe she had a tumor which need to to be taken care of. she put it off, partly for our sake because she didn't want to be out of action during the election, and the ohio vote fiasco.

now the tumor has twinned itself, so she has two to deal with. i believe she stated that her entire utero would be removed.

i want her to do what she needs to do, take the time off she needs to take, and know that we will be here when she comes back, and she will still have all our support.

we love you randi, and you will get huge good vibes from us while you are taking care of business.

To be fair, I think that part of that is the need to keep the show moving at a steady pace. Most of the time they have to deal with hard breaks and whatnot, so, in order to get the most amount of callers in, she has to have everyone hurry up with their points.

Still she's passionate as hell about what she does and really sticks it to the Republicans (I just love it when she tackles freepers :)).

9. Randi's hung-up on me once
Apparently, I didn't know when to shut-up and let her talk.

I don't blame her.

I got a little carried away.

I'd rather call a different show on Air America anyway, but Randi's is the only one where the line isn't constantly busy.

Anyway, I hope all will be well with her.

6. Try some......
...'Progest' cream. Women cannot naturaly replenish progesterone and should use some made from Wild Yams. Women do not need estrogen, its everywhere in the environment. Women do need progesterone; PMS goes away, bones get strong, sleep is excellent and moods are much much much better.
You can get it at any health food store and many pharmacies compound it tho you need doc script for pharms.
Try it, you'll like it!

11. or only take the freeper calls when she feels like tearing someone
a new one...I actually enjoy listening to her shut down some of the RW ranters that her switchboard lets through. They are clearly deranged and Randi gives 'em just enough rope..........

16. Can be serious if they are large, or if they don't maintain size....
and just keep on growing.

I know someone who has one the size of a softball, about 50 years old, and they recommend not having surgery if it remains the same size or possibly shrinks during menopause.

You may have seen some of the amazing stories on TV where they get to be the size of footballs or even bigger.

8. she's quite justifiably scared
her sister DIED from a similar condition, now she has something similar. Her rage at the ineptitude and insurance company's cold hearted treatment of her sister is surfacing again. Anyone who saw her suffer through that period would understand; essentially an insurance company killed her sister.

Perhaps THAT is some of what you see surfacing. Cripes, she's only human. Let's hope she spends recovery watching CSPAN 24/7.

God bless Randi Rhodes.

13. Have you guys ever heard how rude the people are
Edited on Sat Feb-05-05 09:22 PM by Cleita
to her? I don't find her any different than Tweety in how she deals with callers. He is downright rude to people who even agree with him and sometimes she is, but I guess because she is a woman it's not acceptable.

If I wanted tea and crumpets I'd listen or watch someone closer to Martha Stewart.
