Idaho big brave hero poacher/murderer to be set free
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/02/05/idaho.outlaw.ap/index.html
Now a bespectacled 54-year-old, (Claude) Dallas is to be released from prison Sunday after serving nearly 22 years for the slayings of Conley Elms and Bill Pogue, officers for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game.
The case has been among the most polarizing in Idaho history, with some expressing disgust at how Dallas has gained a measure of folk-hero status among those who rally against the establishment."

Poach some bobcats, murder the inspectors, and then ride on the shoulders of "we-don't-like-gub'mint-but-we-does-like-our-sub'sdeez" crowd. Maybe I'm just cynical, but there are a lot of twisted folk about.

1. ironically, this general attitude prompted me to buy property in Idaho
Because where will you be safer from storm troopers than in a rural environment that already hates the Feds?

2. Just a word of caution...
There are those in that particular rural environment who don't take kindly to strangers/newcomers of whatever ilk. And just MHO, but seems to me laws protecting wildlife are pretty important in every part of the country. And again MHO, feds don't necessarily deserve to die for doin' their jobs. I get your point about the storm troopers, though. Let's hope we don't allow it to come to that.

3. well, that's more of an out-of-the-frying-pan-and-into-the-fire kind
of thing...

4. Yeah, lots of twisted folk indeed.
I'm pretty familiar with an area in the northwest where lots of the local folk think Tim McVeigh is a hero. 'Cause of Ruby Ridge and Waco, y'know. And these folk are also very worried about blue helmeted UN types marching in and taking over. Go figure.

But they do have their hands out for them sub'sdeez...

I have some good friends in Idaho who I'm quite sure do not view Dallas as anything but what he is--a low-life stone-cold killer. Sorry he's going to be free to roam the hills once more. Be interesting to see if crowds of supporters greet him with cheers when he walks through the gates. Makes me sick to think about it.

Tired Old Cynic
