was on a local radio show today (she's the new head of the Betty Ford Center). She said her father is in fine health.

I'm suprised his tongue hasn't fallen off by now. That ignorant bastard saved Nixon from a criminal trial. I can never forgive him for that. I don't think he was smart enough to be Deep Throat. LBJ said Ford couldn't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I love the picture of him with the little girl. I have another one of him from the 80's (it appears to be) with a little group of kids and a little foreign girl is laying her head on his knee. Seems like little kids like to lay on Kerry. :) Sweet. You never see kids with Bush laying on him like that. It's mostly babies and most of the time they don't look to happy.

Didn't find anything about the cancer on Google, but there were a couple of articles about problems he's had with his tongue:

During the 2000 Republican National Convention in Philadelphia, Ford appeared "sluggish and sick" on television during a tribute to him. A few hours later, shortly after midnight on Wednesday, August 2, Ford presented to the emergency room at Hahnemann University Hospital, complaining of facial pain. The physician diagnosis was "a sinus attack." Ford stayed only a half-hour, and declined the recommendation to have a CT scan <4>.

Upon awakening on Wednesday morning, Ford had new symptoms and returned to the hospital. He apparently had left arm weakness, balance difficulties, and slurred speech <4>. A stroke was diagnosed and he was treated with "blood thinners" <4>.

The slurred speech, however, was ascribed to a swollen, painful tongue, which proved to be abscessed with actinomycosis. (This is an exceedingly rare cause of a tongue abscess.) The abscess was drained under general anesthesia <6>. (It is not clear when the anticoagulants were started, in relation to the abscess drainage.)

Later, a Ford spokesman declared that Ford had developed tongue pain while in Colorado, before Ford departing for the convention <6>.
