Technically, the war/invasion of Iraq is OVER
Edited on Tue Feb-08-05 01:59 PM by SnoopDog
Why are we still there?

The ‘reason’ for invading Iraq was WMD. Bush invaded the sovereign nation of Iraq on March 19, 2003 – a nation who has committed no acts of war upon the USA. Of course, Bush had formulated his war plans upon Iraq, more specifically Saddam Hussein within days on coming into office (2000) (BBC News).

The ‘war’ was classified as ‘Mission Accomplished’ on May 2, 2003.

In the ensuing months, no WMD were found. This bush administration then stated there were ‘ties to Al Qaeda’. These were proven false. Then it was, I guess, ‘just because’.

President Bush and high-ranking government officials *lied* to both Congress and the American people to *invade* a country. The ensuing illegal war has cost thousands and thousands of lives (dead/wounded), and billions and billions of our taxpayer dollars. Lying to Congress and starting a war are severe grounds for impeachment

Where does the money go? The military budget in 2001 was $303 billion dollars. Today that figure is $419 billion dollars. That is an increase of over $100 billion dollars. And they want special funding – to the tune on $80 billion? For what? They cannot even properly armor our transports and our soldiers. Where does the money go? By the way, the actual figure for ‘military spending’ in 2004 was $468 billion dollars.

Back to the ‘war is over’ – why are we still there? Mission Accomplished, Hussein captured, no WMD, no Iraq standing army, their faux elections – nothing really to fight for. Our American soldiers walk around looking for trouble. Our commanders totally wipe out the city of Fallujah. Why are we still there? Why are we spending $5 billion dollars a month? There is no Iraq uniformed army to fight. We are there now just causing trouble.

Conclusions:
1. Cease all aggressions in Iraq.
2. Enact defensive postures – no offensives.
3. Withdraw majority of our soldiers.
4. Train Iraqs – really train them.
5. And YES, SET A FUCKING DEADLINE – after that, they are in charge of protecting themselves.

AND, reduce Military Budget from $419 Billion to 2003 figures of $365 billion and take that money and fund our social and economic programs.

Our American government has been over-thrown by fascist.
To All Members of Congress: You better protect us before it is too late.
