Why the fuck isn't anyone on DU saying this??
Tonight's Democratic debate legitimized FOX news. All Democratic candidates just contributed to the facade, to the lie that FOX news is an actual source of news, rather than an extremely biased right-wing presentation of various news stories. ALL news stories are presented in an editorial manner on FOX news. Anchors add their two cents, make jokes at all things left. Not a single thing that happens on FOX news is done without spin, without bias, without some attention to their agenda.

Democratic politicians, Democratic strategists, Democratic pundits, et al should have boycotted FOX news long ago. This would do more damage to FOX news than the occasional appearance on Hannity & Colmes. Instead of making a stand, our Democratic leaders are giving credibility to FOX news.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

1. What can I say?
I couldn't believe it, and I was not a bit surprised at the disruptors. Typical repug tactics to paint the Dems as a bunch of radicals to the brain-dead Fox sheep who always tune in.

7. How about thinking of it this way?
1. Fox commentary was absent during the debate itself; only masochists who wanted to hang around afterward subjected themselves to it. Any slanted questions were handled beautifully, and I thought most of the questions were fine (I know some others disagree).
2. The Dems USED Faux to get their message out, and they will get more media tonight than if no debate had been held.
3. If all the viewers were as you say, they would never have voted for the Dems anyway. The Dems lose nothing. But I think there are people in the audience (live and TV) who don't fit that description, and the Dems didn't have to pay to reach them,
4. Al and others got in TONS of sound bites and this will get them positive attention.

The candidates need to speak to a broad spectrum of Americans and what better way to reach conservatives then Faux news. Get over it.

6. The candidates can't do anything about the venue.
All they can do is show up. Considering the number of posts and threads on the debate I'd say a lot of Democrats, who don't usually watch Fox including me, were tuned in. If there is a Neilson rating, it could point out to a very big audience. Wouldn't that be a kick in the ass to Murdoch? He would then realize that there is a whole bunch of us out there who don't watch usually because we have been so alienated by their coverage.

12. Further on this excellent point
Democrats refuse to show up at a Fox debate. Every Fox station blares this for months. Fox is legitimized anyway.

This is not directed at you, Wayne, so much as everybody.

It's easy to make these kind of calls from the cheap seats, from the sidelines.

13. More than likely Clete....
the right-wingers turned the Democrats off and only turned it back on aftert he debate to listen to the hatchet job they did on every single Democrat.

The damage is done with those viewers that are not DU'ers nor are they rightwingers. They will be influenced more by the after-debate comments than by anything the candidates said, in my opinion... I hate it when they do their little giggles as an indicator to their audience that this person really needs to be ridiculed...

Edited on Tue Sep-09-03 10:20 PM by KoKo01
when I saw Barnes, Snow, Kondrake and Ceci Connolly.......I listened for 2 minutes and turned it off.

I never watch Faux.....but I hear about it all the time on DU. I've been fine forever never watching it.

There's enough whoreing on CNN/MSNBC......why put yourself through that garbage can?

They will never change. It will give you high blood pressure......it will make you ill! I don't understand DU'ers who watch their crap. Maybe the young DU'ers who love to shout at screens or are just learning about media and politics.......but anyone over 40 whose been around and is a Dem.......I just don't understand it.......

11. I don't know
FOX is propaganda, and very dangerous. But I don't think FOX gained additional credibility after this.

If someone listened to that debate, and then the insane "post-game", and didn't notice the difference, then at least they had a chance.

Look, I hate FOX, I fear FOX, but take it to them. Look at Will Pitt's tape last night--he stayed calm, focused, but I think he was all alone there.

14. FOX News has painted itself into a right wing corner.
The perception of it as a mouthpiece for the administration can only grow because they have been so glaringly obvious about it. Hosting a few debates is NOT going to be able to turn the tide and once you have lost your credibility, it takes forever to get it back.

Also, FAUX may have a lot of viewers, but that doesn't mean that everyone watching sees them as "fair and balanced." Ever wonder why FAUX doesn't do polls during their broadcasts? My theory is that they would have to report results that they don't want to report.

15. Who else offerred a cable channel? Was there a Choice?
I suspect C-Span and out.

The media is shutting out the Dems.

So Fox got exposure and we got exposure - a deal

Granted I need a shower now after thinking about Fox.

18. FOX = foul and unbalanced
just sickening ... for a brief moment, i entertained the fantasy that FOX, even if it were only to boost profits, might figure they had Democrats in their audience tonight and might want to try to win over a few of them as viewers ...

i held out very little hope for this but decided to stick around to hear a few comments after the debate ... up first, Freddie "the beetle" Barnes ... what a total schmuck ... he talked about how out of touch the democrats were ... he complained how they talked about a healthcare system in crises, how people are out of work, the inequities of the Patriot Act etc and how this was all "leftie stuff" that would not appeal to mainstream america ...

and so, after less than one minute of this foul and unbalanced crap, i returned to the final inning or two of the yankee-tigers game ... you can learn much more watching baseball than you can from Fox "News" ...

21. A lose-lose situation
Just the kind Rove (and Goebbels) liked to put their enemies into.

Given that most people are still living in the Dreamworld of What Was, thinking 9-11 perhaps changed everything but not in the ways they think...

Given that, by the "old rules" that only the DLC plays by to boycott would NOT look good to the public.

But Faux is a joke and hell yes, it's biased as hell.

_Wayne_, you are right.

And the guy that said you have to reach other voters is right.

Which makes it all bad news...Catch-22, Goebbels v2.0 slide to doom.

(Christ being in the Third World sucks...and it's really gonna suck after the other shoes drop!)

Fox "News" should be consistantly exposed and boycotted for the misleading neo-con propaganda it is. Howard Dean and Dennis Kucinich have gotten as far as they have through the much more free and balanced medium of the internet. That's how we can win the next election in spite of the enormous money advantage Bush will have.

Some signs of the times:
