The Hudson Institute, based in Indiana, received large grants from two prominent foundations: from the Olin Foundation, $125,000 in 1993 and $300,000 in 1994; from the Bradley Foundation, $600,000 in 1994. MSNBC yanks GOP "pollster" Frank Luntz

Upon hearing that MSNBC planned for Republican pollster Frank Luntz (Hudson Institute adjunct fellow) to conduct on-air focus groups as part of the cable network's debate coverage tonight, David Brock of the media watchdog group Media Matters sent MSNBC executive Rick Kaplan a letter of complaint. It looks like Kaplan listened.

There was no accompanying story. No surprise there, they often have a treasure trove of information in the photos and captions with no stories.

Entifadh Qanbar, special envoy of Iraq's majority Shiite party United Iraqi Alliance, (the unhappy looking guy next to perle) is none too happy.....

Qanbar charged that the Iraqi administration and their U.S. advisers have recruited senior people from Saddam Hussein's Baath Party to crack down on the ongoing insurgency. "Experts in America thought that they should bring Baathists to power. That definitely led to a rapid destabilization of the situation," Qanbar said.

He demanded that the United States "de-Baathify" Iraq. "The security apparatus not only turned a blind eye on terrorism," Qanbar said, "but it helped terrorists."

Bad decisions on the part of the interim government before the election were responsible for many of the security deficiencies in post-war Iraq. "It is time to point out the level of security and corruption problems we had in the last six months. The government was actively working to help terrorism," he said.

The infiltration of Iraqi police and intelligence services had gone so far it was a "nightmare to be stopped by police" in Iraq. "They could kill me," Qanbar said, "I have had some serious encounters." Collaboration with former members of the Baath Party has led to countless problems, he maintained, giving Iraq no future. "The Baath party is the richest terror organization in history," he said.

Qanbar was referring to the decision made by the Washington-backed interim Iraqi government to recruit former members of the Baath Party in an effort to install experienced security and police officials to battle the insurgency. Initially they had been prohibited from participating in the new government, which led to resentment, anger and unemployment among many who had joined the party only to keep their positions under Saddam's regime.
