Brit Hume compares Jeff Gannon's name change to Mark Twain.
On Special Report with Brit Hume 2/10, Hume and his panel got around to discussing the Guckert/Gannon flap.

Bill Sammon from the Moonie/ Washington Times said:

Sammon:...his real name first of all is James Guckert, but he changed his name to, sort of a nom de plume(pen name) I guess...

Hume: It's an honorable tradition you know(unintelligble)..Mark Twain

Sammon called it a plot from the liberal bloggers and press to supress a conservative voice; which will be the new republican talking point on the issue.

Jeff Birnbaum hinted at the truth, while Krauthammer laughably compared Talon News to Slate, and the Nation.

Mark Twain was published in newspapers.

It's the combination of the fake name and fake organization which doesn't meet the standards other people who would like to ask questions at White House press conferences go through which is the problem.

If they let liberal bloggers who meet the same standards as 'Jeff Gannon' ask Bush questions, that would be different.

7. The fake name by itself isn't the problem.
It's the combination of using a fake name and getting a press-pass for a website less-than-a-week-old under different standards than other applicants, for the sake of having a ringer at White House press briefings.

If a legitimate reporter for a legitimate organization uses a pen-name, that is fine by me.

14. It's ok for writers of fact to use pen-names, if they earn respect
under that pen-name and work their way up.

It's not ok to use a fake name and get instant access to the White House which is unearned.

read some of them. We must let them know what WE see as the true significance of this fraud and ask them how would they have handled this expose under the Clinton administration and call them the neocon hypocrites that they are. They don't think it matter because we never let them hear our voices. We must go around them to get to their audiences. We can discredit them to at least some of their viewers.

Flyer sample:

BRIT HUME AND FOX SEEK TO IGNORE HUGE SECURITY BREECH AT WHITE HOUSE PRESS ROOM.

The go into giving Daily Kos website and some of the excerpts of the information gathered about "Gannon."

Believe me, folks will read the flyer is FOX is in big letters.

19. History may just repeat itself.....
Blackwater is a mercenary outfit.
Four Blackwater mercenaries went into Fallujah - which the US Marines has designated as a no-go place.
The Blackwater mercenaries started messing over the residents of Fallujah who responded by hosting a barbecue in Blackwater's honor.

Next thing, the USMC et al is ordered in to defend the memory of the hired guns and now we hearing reports of the US military have been rendered into "a broken force."

OK.
JeffJames GannonGuckert has fallen.

Let the other presstitutes come.

Guckert to Gannon, it's a folksy, uniquely American story, like Mark Twain. Once again we see that conservatives are the true voice of the heartland and values and traditions, like painting fences... floating down the mighty Mississip'....hot naked writhing military escorts...dogtagged shirtless warriors with buns so tight you could bounce a quarter off them....Thank you! Thank you, Brit Hume!

32. 700,000 Hits On Talon News?????
Before this story gets any real legs, the myth that "Talon News" is news has to be shot to hell. We need a 60 Minutes to go in and show the Eberle boiler room and then put these monkeys in front of the camera...or watch 'em run for their ratholes. As long as "Talon" is considered "legit"...or the wingnuts can claim that it is...the longer "Gannon" gets a pass in the corporate media and the real story gets stonewalled.

"Gannon's" story gets more interesting by the day, but that has to be secondary to the disinformation campaign this regime has conducted through the manipulation and corruption of the media. Allowing "Talon" News to remain "legit" also gives the corporate media a place to hide as well.

33. Finally! After 150 years, the Republican party has its own Mark Twain
Edited on Sat Feb-12-05 04:12 PM by 0rganism
Let's embrace this meme. Jeff Gannon is the Republican version of Mark Twain. Twain/Clemens was a social critic, a free-spirited anti-government genius, a man who wrote many an eloquent article in opposition to wars and violent "solutions" to national problems, who remains a well-recognized author to this day. Fittingly, Gannon/Guckert, our newest entry into the Republican imitation squad, is a partisan critic, a prostituted anti-Democratic know-nothing, a man propped up to kiss the ass of power both literally and figuratively, who will outlive his fame by many decades.

If this is the Republicans' answer to Mark Twain, I dare them to show us their answer to Social Security.

36. & the FauxWatch Circus Didn't Mention GUCKERT At All
It's supposed to be a "media watchdog" circus, parallel to Howie the Whore's circus. It would seem that a propagandist shill getting entry to the WH press Corpse would be a major topic of discussion on a "media watchdog" program------------why, NO, no it's not. Not a peep about it. Even bigger than the propaganda angle, doesn't somebody getting into the WH under a false name amount to a SECURITY issue? But since Nov 3, I've cut out my cable news watching to next to nothing, and I'm much more relaxed.
