Counterfeiters Won't Care About The New $20 Bill... Right?

Since the old-style $20's will still be legal tender, why should they care that a newer $20 exists?

Won't the hard-core counterfeiters simply continue to create old-style $20's? Seems like the only way for this to begin to approach any level of meaningful success would be for the government to devalue the old $20's and require them to be cashed in (or something like that.)

Personally, I always liked the Australian "paper" money. Actually... if I recall correctly, the Australian folding currency is made of a polymer-infused paper/plastic that lasts longer than paper. --- I especially like the little clear "windows" in their folding currency. (Try to scan and print THAT on your home computer!)

Where I live, there's recently been an influx of $100, $20 and $10 bills, all in the new bill format. Most have been caught because the paper isn't right, but that's something which can change.

The smart counterfeiters are going to be buying time on mass spectrometers and atomic absorption units to find out the composition of the paper (and possibly the ink), and will eventually find a way to imbed the magnetic strip in the bill.

Only a matter of time. Ingenuity knows no bounds....
