BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- After days without an American fatality, two U.S. soldiers were killed in separate incidents over the last 24 hours in the Baghdad area, U.S. Central Command said.

A soldier with the 1st Armored Division was killed Wednesday when troops attempted to detonate an improvised explosive device, according to a Central Command statement.

In the other incident, a soldier from the Army's 3rd Corps Support Command was killed and one was injured Tuesday in an improvised explosive device attack on their vehicle. The attack occurred on a major supply route northeast of Baghdad, Central Command said.
