What's up with all these black Republican pundits
They are everywhere! I have not seen many black Democratic pundits on any of the news channels and it seems the MSM is purposefully trying to make it appear there are a disproportionate amount of blacks supporting the Republican party. What gives? And what are we going to do about it?

11. You're preaching to the choir with me
I was bashed on DU for saying that the Democrats are developing a perception problem in the area of race. Now, I see it even more as the Republicans parade black pundits all over the media as the voices of a race which deserves to not be taken advantage of.

What can we do, as a community, to let the Democratic Party leaders recognize that some things are going to have to change and soon?

4. The Repubs
have been cultivating the Right wing talking heads for over 40 years....the media is absolutely crawling with AEI, Heritage Foundation, etc., fellows, employees and scholars (current and former scholarship recipients)

The repubs spend their money on building this infrastructure (people are part of the infrastructure) and we spend ours on helping people.... unfortuntately we've got to change.....

7. You know how to stop the GOP from sending them on television
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 01:04 PM by independentchristian
Everytime that the GOP sends a "black Republican" on television, send a "black Democrat" to debate them.

The GOP is trying to play to "images," and foolishness that says, "I don't care if he/she does not stand for what I stand for, they look like me so I'm going to side with them more than I side with you, because you don't."

That's what it's all about. Playing to that foolishness.

It's the same thing with all of these stupid "white Christian evangelicals."

They love Bush because they think he's a "born again Christian," and because he's a "white one" at that.

If TD Jakes () ran for President, do you think they'd be turning out in numbers for him? I seriously doubt it.

8. Harlem Globetrotter Theory
The players on the floor are black while the audience, the manager, ownership and everyone else is white.

The right wing has been targeting blacks with blacks for a long time...and have tried to cultivate someone who would take hold in the black community. J.C. Watts was set up this way...and when the GOOP leadership saw he wasn't catching on, they dumped him and have been looking for others...especially if they can get their mugs on the tube. First there was Alan Keyes and then came Armstrong and some black (and paid for pundits)...and now looks like CNNservative has upped the anty with several black conservatives as news people and hosts.

IMHO, the voice of the many blacks (they're not a monolith...or "on a plantation") are getting old now. When the Corporate Media needs a "black leader", they still turn to a Jesse Jackson. While Jesse has done a great deal, he's the voice of a generation of the past, not of the present or future. The younger generation, including his own son (who is a GREAT Congressman) is far more low-key and doesn't get the camera time. Rarely do you hear a member of the CBC or the NAACP ever interviewed. Maybe a new day in a new media will change these things.

10. Easy way to tell
If the black person is allowed to talk on the news, it's because he or she is conservative. Sometimes they'll bring in Al Sharpton, but mostly for the "point and laugh" value.

Millions and millions of black people all across the nation, of all kinds of backgrounds, incomes, education levels and so forth. And 90% of them will vote Democratic in the presidential ballot.

Yet the only black people allowed to voice an opinion on news shows come from the 10% of their population who vote differently. This is called by the media "fairness" and "balance." By people with a functioning brain, it's called "unrepresentative," a "sham," and "dishonest."
