Hilarious defense of Gannon by Conservative Voice
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 10:48 PM by paagal kutta
Liberals have Their Jeff Gannon

WASHINGTON -- Accuracy in Media charged today that a liberal activist and associate of Ralph Nader has been obtaining access to White House press briefings while claiming to be a legitimate news reporter.

Russell Mokhiber, who sells a $795 a year newsletter that bashes corporations, attends the briefings to make obscure anti-Bush political points. Recently, for example, he asked spokesman Scott McClellan whether President Bush violated one of the Ten Commandments by invading Iraq. Mokhiber, who told AIM that he has never taken a journalism class in his life and was denied a permanent White House press pass, posts his ludicrous questions and answers on a far-left web site under the title "Scottie & Me."

Other Mokhiber topics have included industrial hemp, Israel's 1967 attack on the USS Liberty, possible war crimes charges against Bush, and Halliburton.

AIM editor Cliff Kincaid said Mokhiber's attendance at the briefings makes it clear that the controversy over Jeff Gannon attending the same briefings was manufactured by left-wing bloggers and liberals in the media because they don't want conservatives in the White House press corps.

1. The liberal reporter met the standards, while "Jeff Gannon"
got preferential treatment to get in.

"Jeff Gannon" also got to ask questions much more often, in spite of less experience.

4. Gannon was a "call boy" for the GOP
Let's see them trump that.

Morans!

2. Nope. We just don't want man-whore paid propagandists ...
in the White House press pool.

Just imagine if this was a Democratic administration.

AIM would be in convulsions if it were a Democratic man-whore.

12. I don't even care if he's a man-whore.
He was a paid propagandist. That's what bugs the hell out of me. The professional sexuality is just color and context, illustrating the amazing hypocrisy of the "moral values" crowd.

6. This guy has been writing news since at least 1988
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 11:44 PM by brainshrub
Thankfully this guy has an easy name to track. If this Russell Mokhiber is the same guy, he's been writing since 1988:

http://multinationalmonitor.org/hyper/issues/1988/04/mm0488_10.html

He has also been on Democracy Now:

http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=04/02/17/160218

He's an investigative journalist with at least two books written:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-6166623-0964931

He doesn't simply take press-releases and re-write them like some other people do. He's light-years more qualified to be in the Presidential Press room than Gannon ever was.

ON EDIT: I have only touched on some of his credentials. The RW has picked the wrong person to use as an example of an "under-qualified" journalist.

ON EDIT II: I have tried to post my quick research on Mokhiber on The Conservative Voice, but for the ability to reply to the article is either malfunctionong or turned of.

7. I probably shouldn't be, but I am.....
I am amazed by their lack of objectivity.

I liked Clinton as a president and I voted for him twice, but I didn't agree with everything he said and did like some robot turned out by the DNC. What is wrong with these people that they cannot step back and objectively view the situation without becoming so defensive that they cannot see the forest for the trees? It's like their very lives depend on b*sh being perfect and anything less is entirely unacceptable.

Sorry to rant, but GOD I cannot believe that they are defending Gannon/Guckert being in the WH!

10. Amen to that.
It's okay to be a Liberal or Conservative, but you've got a responsibility to: 1) As best you can, report the facts and back it up with research. 2) Let readers be able to easily find out where your ideology lies.

Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 01:15 AM by shadowknows69
leave your personal shit at home. do your job. especially when the future of our democracy depends on it. and personally I don't think your ideology should be apparent at all. asking tough questions of a government official is not a partisan thing. In any given situation there are obivious questions that should be asked period. no personal politics involved just what common sense tells us should be asked. Who, What, Where, When, Why and How? The basics are still the best.

15. ITS THE PROPAGANDA, STUPID!
These people just don't get it. If it were Clinton up there with conservative reporters asking tough questions, it would be totally O.K. because its the reporter's job to ask tough questions.

DUH!

But if Clinton had a left-wing uncredentialed plant in the press corp. feeding spouting WH propaganda and asking incredibly biased "non-questions". Yes that would be wrong.

Why can't these morans see the difference? Are they deficient?

16. They are muddying the waters, it's their MO.
They are reducing the outrage and charges of malfeasance over Gannon to an OPINION.

Well, hey, on the right wing they have their opinions too - specifically about journalists who happen to be critical of Buchco.

Once we are in the realm of opinions, anything goes and no one is right (or wrong).
