2. I don't know
The Corporate Media cover the administration's' butts so well, plus they have paid propagandists, and apparently employ actual prostitutes to fool us. I fear by the time the stupid awaken, it will be too late for all of us.

11. Not a freakin thing.
At least 40% of Americans are too stupid, ignorant and brainwashed to ever realize how they are being duped and screwed over by the Fascist Bush Junta. Many seem to take pride in their ignorant stupidity. Ignorance can be changed but stupidity cannot.

15. That's just more of their propaganda
there are a lot of folks in uniform who can't stand Bush. That's why you don't see him doing those staged events at military bases anymore.

26. I think it depends upon which branch you happen to serve in
the career military types seems to love Bush. He's been good for their careers. However, the Army and the National Guard who have had to suffer the most from Bush's bad decisions are not so happy with him.

27. That's not true.
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 09:05 AM by LynnTheDem
A Military Times survey last December of 933 subscribers, about 30% of whom had deployed for the Iraq war, found that 56% considered themselves Republican — about the same percentage who approved of Bush's handling of Iraq.

Half of those responding were officers, who as a group tend to be more conservative than their enlisted counterparts.

Among officers, who represent roughly 15% of today's 1.4 million active duty military personnel, there are about eight Republicans for every Democrat, according to a 1999 survey by Duke University political scientist Peter Feaver.

Enlisted personnel, however (85% of the entire US military) — a disproportionate number of whom are minorities, a population that tends to lean Democratic — are more evenly split.

Professor Feaver estimates that about one third of enlisted troops are Republicans, one third Democrats, and the rest independents, with the latter group growing.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/nation/president/2004-09-20-troops-csm_x.htm

In other words, with 85% of the US military, republicans are outnumbered 2-1.

Of my husband's entire unit, 1 voted for bush & is a republican, 2 are reps but voted for Kerry, 1 is an Indy who didn't vote for anyone; all the rest are Dems who voted for Kerry.

Like the rightwingnut myth (LIE) of the "librul media", so goes the rightwingnut myth (LIE!) that most soldiers are rethugs.

NO THEY AREN'T. There are more Dems and Indys in the military than there are republicans.

14. When it begins to hurt them personally...
... when one of their kids gets drafted to fight in one of the many wars against EastAsia.

When their co-pays on health insurance (or no health insurance) causes them to go into bankruptcy and they discover they can't get any relief.

When their jobs go overseas, too.

When they're coughing up a lung from air pollution.

When they retire and discover they don't have enough to live on.

When they have to stand in lines two miles long for gas.

When their deregulated electric company applies "market rates" to them and their bills go stratospheric.

When their food bills double and triple because Monsanto owns the genetic rights on everything they eat.

When their city water service gets sold to Blue Gold or Bechtel and their rates quadruple.

When their houses get broken into by the FBI because someone heard them grumbling.

When their taxes go up to pay for a trillion-dollar defense department.

But, I'm not counting on it.... *sigh*

20. I'm not counting on it, either.
Even if everything on your list happened, I doubt it would change many minds; they would just spin it so that liberals and Democrats would take the blame for their problems. Most are too stupid or too lazy or both, to bother with determining who should really get any of the blame.

…but one at a time. Each for their own reason and no other.

It's gonna be a long haul. And yet, there will still be those 'true believers' for whom Nothing will ever suffice to shake their faith in their leader.

17. ...
Man's fear has withered, and even time tries to wither the desire to know the truth.
Is it a crime to try and search for the truth?
Is it a sin to search for those things which you fear?
Fear- it is something vital to us puny creatures.
The instant man stops fearing is the instant the species will reach a dead end,
only to sink to pitiable lows, only to sit and wait apathetically for extinction.
Wake up! Don't be afraid of knowledge!
Humans who lose the capacity to think become creatures whose existence has no value.
Think, you humans who are split into two worlds-
unless you want the gulf between humans to expand into oblivion, you must think!
Even without the events of 4 years ago,
I think man would still be a creature that fears the dark.
He doesn't face that fear,
he averts his eyes from it and acts as if he never had any memories of his history.
Wake Up America, Mankind, Your Being Lied To by your corporate Masters.
You are puppets but i want to cut your strings.
Can you not see your Puppet Masters?
Can you not feel the stings of fear Controlling you?
Can you not hear your masters voice Speaking through you?
Wake Up America, World, and stop being Puppets for your corporate masters!
Demand Truth! Demand Fairness! Demand Accountibility!
I Will cut your strings, And we, Together Can End the corporate Greed
And Facisim of the ones Manipulating us!

19. Persistant high unemployment, adversity that directly affects a large
number of them. Corporations and their media have essentially reprogrammed the citizens so they no longer empathise with their fellow citizens. Unless it directly affects them for a long period of time they will not wake up. They have been made over as drones in the mold that Corporations want them to be.

Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 08:41 AM by Enraged_Ape
I am now TOTALLY convinced the situation is hopeless.

These people have completely lost not only their minds, but also their souls. They have become so locked down by the horrible fear of being duped and wrong that they can NEVER free themselves.

It's just damn sad. Even when Bush destroys the planet, as he inevitably must, these people will stumble through the radioactive rubble coughing up blood, puking, and keeping one eye out for that Jesus who was supposed to come take them away.
