Coulter for an HOUR vs...."and, um...and, um, and um".. Heads up.. Dr Dean
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 09:40 AM by SoCalDem
:grr:

Today's Washington Journal is very illustrative of our "media problem".. This Robinson guy is a very personable guy and I'm sure he means well, but he is NO "antidote" to an hour of Coulter..

Dean simply MUST start getting a stable of sharp, quick-witted, "thinking on their feet",and most of all WELL SPOKEN, articulate people...and he must "offer" them..INSIST that they be guests on the various shows as a counterweight to the plethora of rightwingers that are lined up 5-deep, half way across the country..

1. I agree completely
We must stop looking so damn weak. Get some people who are articulate, interesting and forceful.

3. I have to agree.
I've noticed that problem for a long time. Surely there are people out there who, unlike Coulter et al, know their facts, are intelligent, reasonable, but who also are able to articulate their ideas quickly and effectively on television.

7. Faux has been doing it since its inception...
...putting attractive, articulate conservatives against unatractive, stuttering liberals.

8. True... but I would prefer "not psychotic AND articulate"
:)

Ole Brian does this all the time, and should be called on it.. He knows that Dear Annie is radioactive, so of course he would invite a newcomer columnist to counterbalance her..

Mark my words, he will be using mr Robinson when people berate him about not having liberals on.. "Hold on Hold on.. just last week we had a black liberal, Mr Robinson from the WaPo on for an entire hour"..

It's just one of many tricks....

last year he had some lady on after John Fund.. she was a LIBERAL who was there to talk about the POSTAL SYSTEM...after Fund trashed kerry for an hour :grr:

Every time someone called and tried to deflect her to more fruitful discussion, Brian would steer her back to the postal system:(

5. He could start with the Air America/Jones hosts themselves
I was just thinking this morning how much more wittier and smarter "our" guys are then "their" guys (including Ann the Man). I mean, c'mon:

Franken vs. Limbaugh?
Schultz vs. Hannity?

It's no contest!

Oh what I wouldn't give to see that verbal beating! Randi would wipe the floor with her.

6. I'm an advocate of "Starving the beast"...
Keep to our alternative media... When they get
hungry enough. They'll come to us on our terms.

Till then... Tune in Official Liberal Media
or turn it off.

11. Politically Incorrect
The one time I've ever seen anyone shut her down was on Politically Incorrect, where an African-American comedian just started railing against her in a very pissed-off, "how could you think and say that stuff?" manner. It was great to watch her little look-off-to-the-side-but-not-at-the-person thing she does when she's being told she's wrong. That is a huge problem with the Left; we don't have many people who can do that sort of energetic engagement without sounding like a schmuck. The Left is open to alternate views and opinions, etc., which means that just shutting (shouting) down someone you disagree with isn't a tactic many of us feel comfortable with, but the sound-bite mentality demands it. We need to find someone who -- unlike Kerry, who while highly articulate (most of the time) in my opinion, could not get himself into the sound-bite mentality -- can get complex ideas across quickly, passionately, and intelligently. People, we must revive Carl Sagan (not quite a joke, but we do need someone like him right now).

14. That was DL Hughley (I love that guy)
I think he called her an "ignorant bitch" too :)

he's one very savvy guy. He knows the facts and has a brilliant delivery.. Reminds me of Richard Pryor when he was young:)

16. Rhodes vs. Coulter
I would definitely pay to listen to that!
Especially after hearing her smack around Ollie North!

I still say Franken needs to have a presidential style(moderated)debate with O'liely

17. I was watching this morning
seem to me to be LOTS of right wing callers all telling her how much they loved her and how beautiful she was. She talked over the few liberal callers and wouldn't let them get their point across - big on the christian/abortion issue - maybe I tuned in late and missed some earlier liberal callers, but she was totally obnoxious as hell. I just couldn't watch anymore.

Does he have that much leverage?

20. Maybe not, but he has to have access to the names of people
who are articulate and eager to debate policy on tv.. Perhaps some phone calls and encouragement could be used.. The right wing thinktanks "generously offer" the services of their "members" and I'm sure that leads lots of schedulers to accept the "easy" instead of searching for guests :)

19. It was like "Bash Democrats Day" on WJ
I was screaming at the tv, "What have Republicans done for black people!!!!!" Every caller was asking what the Democrats have done for blacks.

I keep saying that the Democrats have a perception problem with race and no one on DU seems to be listening to the black DUers. I guess we're too discussing people being called crackers. Wake up DU, the Democrats are losing the perception war.
