Keith Olbermann showed a clip of him in 2003 on his show last night. Here's a snippet from his latest blog:

"Today, the key, slim, rationale for his admittance to the briefing room - that the ‘vanity website’ for which he ‘reported,’ Talon News, was created four days before “Jeff Gannon” got his first White House pass— collapsed. It was revealed that Guckert attended his first White House press briefing no later than February 2003. "Talon News" would not be launched until the late the following month."

On March 5, 2003, on a thread at the conservative bulletin board Winds of Change concerning an alleged incident where a teacher in Maine "harassed" the children of servicemen by voicing antiwar views, one Jeff Gannon wrote: "This is a question I asked Ari Fleischer at a White House press briefing on Friday" He then posted this question from the WH press conference transcript:

Q: There have been reports out of Maine that the children of deployed
service personnel are being harassed as a result of their elementary school teacher's expression of anti-war views in the classroom. Could you comment on that?"

Videotape of the conference confirms that this is Jeff. If you click on Jeff's "Winds of Change" user ID, you are directed to GOP USA. So, Jeff was covering the White House press conferences before Talon News had been created! Nice trick, that.

13. Can the press FOI the press conference attendees? And are their

credentials on record too? Seems pretty easy, he had to be there representing some one. Maybe he knows "Dick" Cheney.

8. I looked for video from that date

The only thing about that is when this video for the web site was actually produced. It may have started in November 2002 but editing could have been done much later. The key to knowing this is knowing when the video was actually placed on the site.

I believe this to be his first appearance at a White House Press Conference. I have reviewed all the videos prior to this date and no El Jefe but he is there in all the one's I saw after this date. This is three days prior to the first documented siting.
