But a guy who charges $200 an hour has a pretty good business going and that is fair game when he is moonlighting as a fake journalist in the White House press room. So give me a break about "outting" him or invading his "personal" life. Nobody is interested in his personal life. His two careers are more than enough information to go on. Agreed?

No one has made one single inquiry or expressed the least bit of interest in anything "personal" about Jiffy-Lube Jeff. He volunteered the info about his "family."

I don't care what his favorite color is, his birthday, what color his eyes are. I don't care how he decorates his home or even what kind of house it is, or what kind of car he drives or the clothes he wears. I neither know nor care whether he's gay in his personal life. What I do care about is that someone with this sleazoid (and, might I add, illegal) profession, freely advertised on the Internet, was able to get an unprecedented and quite unethical amount of access to the White House, to Administration officials, and to classified documents.

It's hardly outing someone to visit an advertisement for their business.

To Whom it May Concern: I am emailing all the broadcast journalists I can think of who have covered the Jeff Gannon story. I understand that in some circles Mr. Guckert's cry that his privacy has been invaded is getting a sympathetic hearing. Therefore, allow me to beg your thoughtful indulgence, and briefly point out a few things about the "privacy" that was invaded:

1. It was publicly available on the Internet, on professional websites where Mr. Guckert was offering his professional services. PROFESSIONAL. SERVICES. Business enterprise. Since when do citizens of any stripe expect a free "privacy" pass for posting their photos on public websites that offer their professional services? (Might I also point out that these services are illegal?)

2. Next, since this man was appearing regularly in White House press briefings, it would seem that discovery of his professional qualifications and employment history would be entirely relevant to the "job" he was doing. Is it the fault of the researchers that in addition to articles and weblogs they discovered this less than gallant sideline?

3. Guckert and his supporters try to paint this a "hatchet" job or an "outing" of an innocent victim. Really, Monica comes more to mind as an innocent victim than this fellow. After all, she was a youthful intern infatuated with her boss. She hadn't posted photos of them to the Internet, either. And, if she hadn't been tricked into spilling the beans to a mean-spirited "friend" who taped their conversations, her privacy would have remained intact as well it should have!

So, as to Mr. Guckert's ill-advised decision to post himself on the internet as a male escort - though I can surely feel for the man, and his Grandmother (who must be sorely disappointed and saddened). I believe it would have been HIS responsiblity to decide whether he wanted his activities public or private. I'll repeat for emphasis: HIS RESPONSIBILITY. He is a member of the "take personal responsibility" party isn't he? So let him do so. But let not the press give him any more credibility on his claims to "invaded privacy" or being the victim of a "hatchet job".

Instead, please find out what a man with so few credentials was doing with such easy access to the White House. Was it just another part of the administration's media management efforts? Or, were there favors being called in? If so, how might these have compromised our national security? And who besides Mr. Guckert is responsible? And.......I hesitate here, but find it must be asked. What is this WH, with its supposed commitment to "decency" and "righteousness", doing allowing special WH access to a sex worker?


PS: Threatening phone calls, etc. are not the responsibility of those who discover and report unflattering information are they? I mean, would YOU call off a story because some nut jobs are going to make life hell for the principals? Didn't think so.
