((((URGENT)))) CALL TO ARMS
Nearly 500,000 MoveOn members have signed our petition opposing Social Security privatization and benefit cuts. Now the battle for Social Security is coming to a town near you….well, maybe.

The House Republicans are bragging to the media in Washington that there are hundreds of town hall meetings organized by Republican members of Congress and scheduled for next week. We want to highlight these meetings to MoveOn members, so that a bunch of us can turn out and ask the hard questions about this program. But here's the thing: after a quick round of phone calls to 40 Republican representatives we found that only six had actually planned meetings.

This means that scores of representatives may be ducking their constituents on Social Security while Bush and House Republican leaders are making it sound like their plan is wildly popular.

So, we're hoping you can do some investigative work. If you have time this afternoon, please call your representative, Randy Cunningham and ask him if he is planning to hold a town hall meeting to discuss Social Security. Then let us know what you find out.

If the staffer you talk to says yes, ask for the details about their meetings and then please click on the link below to let us know what they're planning to do. We plan to take that information and let other MoveOn members know about the town hall meetings along with important questions that can be asked during the meetings.

Congressman Randy Cunningham

Since members of Congress are home next week for a February in-district work period, this is our best chance to reach them this month. But we need to know if the town meetings they're talking about are real, or if they're just bluster. Can you help?

Thanks for all you do.
