Freeper pride in "almost serving" this is a comical post
To: FairfaxVA

My son is addicted to the Military Channel. He wanted to join but he dropped out of H.S. He's going to try to get his GED but he had asthma when he was younger so I don't think he would be accepted anyway.

1. Tell Mrs. Chickenhawk they'll take her son if he gets his GED
I served with people who had asthma as children. If you haven't had an attack in several years, then you are good to go to tote a rifle for Halliburton!

3. It gets even better
This person is commending the son.

The military channel is a great thing. When I turn on the TV it's the channel I always check first.

I commend your son...even though he has asthma, isn't there a position that he could fill (analyst, etc)? I don't have a military background so I don't know.

I am saddened that you are an Eagles fan:) Being born and bred in NOVA I am an avid Redskins fan. You guys almost got it done this year...the NFC east should be interesting in '05. Can't wait. Only 7 or so months before the season!

Gee, what a surprise :eyes: Oh and, yeah sure, her dumbass-Military Channel-watching-might-be-getting-his-GED son could be an analyst. Farking idiots.....

4. Last I heard, the Navy will accept applicants without a High School degree
...and asthma? I had asthma all my life, and I've been run 2 miles every morning.

5. They're all "Armchair Generals"
Chickenhawk is a good term.

Yes, if they're too old to fight for Uncle Sam, Halliburton has openings all the time, and they pay good. There's no excuse if these guys really want to support our troops.

9. Oh, I get this chickenhawk diatribe all the time
My son is a Marine. So people make all kinds of assumptions. Like I'm a wingnut. And countless times some blowhard warmonger has ranted about how "he really, really wanted to be a Marine, Ranger, Special Forces....whatever...BUT..." And somehow that is supposed to be so impressive to me. It's not. It's annoying. Look, if you want to be part of the military, fine, enlist. If not, fine. Just don't rumble on like you're Bruce Willis cause you like action movies. It's really, really annoying.
Thanks for letting me rant. You hit a nerve with this thread.

13. Oh rant away
I get sick and tired of these warmongers going on and on about this and that and support our troops blah blah blah........But they would be the last in line if ever called.

10. "Military Channel"? Are you guys for real?
I have never heard of such a place. Please fill me in. Perhaps this is a codeword for Fox?

11. Some time ago, a question was posted over there
as to whether if age were no concern, would Freepers enlist. The answers were full of stuff like, "Well, if they'd take someone with a bad back…", or Well, I'd love to go, but I've just been operated on for a double hernia…" "…If my wife would let me…"

14. Of course they would not enlist.
If my wife would let me enlist is the worst I have heard.

15. I was visiting my father
and a former classmate from high school was going on and on warmongering. Really nasty, kill'em all kind of talk. I asked him, jokingly, when he was going to enlist. (He's 50.) He got all agitated (I admit it...that was my aim) and said "I'd enlist tomorrow! But I can't leave my job."
Hear that, reservists?
