Did Hunter Thompson leave a Note?
I've read a lot of speculation as to why he killed himself on DU and in the MSM. it seems unlikely that someone with such a passion for writing would not leave a suicide note... anyone have info/an opinion?

1. I'd like to know...
...not to be morbid- but I'd also like to know what kind of hand-gun was used.

I would think a shot-gun would have been a more safe & obvious choice- and he certainly owned several.

5. Thanks,,,
...any idea why that would be a good choice?

It is my understanding that using hand-guns for suicide is unreliable...

6. I would think it would be relatively simple to shoot youeself....

in the head with a .45. It is a pretty powerful round and would increase a persons chance of killing himself not just causing a serious head wound. The only problem would be flinching or inadvertently pulling the weapon away and seriously wounding yourself. You could put it in your mouth and aim up toward the brain.

I would guess it is what he had handy. Here's a link:

4. ugh, I have the horrible feeling it'll be...
... an afterword in his final volume of letters that Douglas Brinkley is no doubt expediting. I hope he spares us the footnotes.

7. Hunter S Thompson... assassinated?
I mentioned to a friend that I don't understand why Thompson would have done this. My buddy said, "He didn't. But we were meant to think he did." His argument was that as Bush's media stormtroopers tighten their grip, writers like Thompson who publicly oppose them will be considered a real threat.

So if you wanted to have Thompson killed, how would you do it? On a remote farm, there's virtually no possibility of witnesses. And there's nowhere for him to run, it's not like he can simply teleport off this rock. There'll be no escape for Thompson this time.

But after you've shot him, wouldn't you leave a note? Not necessarily. It would be scrutinized for authenticity. Wouldn't want a repeat of the Dan Rather debacle. If word of this got out, it could generate sympathy for the democrats, resulting in some damned fool idealistic crusade. By leaving no note, there's nothing to disprove. He must have done it while drunk or high.

But wouldn't local authorities figure it out? Well, they're not likely to have a sophisticated crime scene team. Even if they did, fear will keep the local systems in line.

Personally, I don't believe any of this. In any case, this will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Thompson and it will soon see the end of Gonzo Journalism.

8. Why are there so many coincidences when it comes to the BFEE?
To frickin' many "lucky" coincidences if ya ask me. Luck seems to always fall onto the bush crime family's side of the fence. Hum? :wtf:

There is a website mentioned, bankrate.com, I tried to find this interview but I can't find the damn thing. Maybe someone else will have better luck than I at finding it :dunce:

From bartcop.com
(Feb. 20 & 21 2005-volume #1500)
----------------------------------------------------
*Subject: "apparent suicide" of Hunter S. Thompson*

BART!

"Another outspoken (VERY OUTSPOKEN) opponent of the B.F.E.E.
is discovered dead from a gunshot wound labeled "an apparent suicide..."

Color me a conspiracy nut, but I just found it a LITTLE bit troubling to discover
that his neighbor is PRINCE BANDAR! (Or "Bandar Bush" to the Bush family!)

Here's an excerpt from a Bankrate.com interview with Hunter S. Thompson last fall.

Bankrate: You've been pretty outspoken in your dislike of our current commander in chief.

Hunter S. Thompson: I was candid about Nixon, too.

Bankrate: Yet you say Nixon pales in comparison to George W. Bush.

Hunter S. Thompson: Oh, yeah, he looks almost like a liberal. You look at the Clean Air Act and
several others back then. Nixon was a crook but at least he operated off of an individual base.
But this yoyo, this stupid little … It's cheap opera. Take a look at your pocket. Take a look around you.
It's a hold-up, a looting of the national treasury, and that's what they're doing. The combined spending of
the Kerry campaign is far less than $5 million for advertising. Five million dollars, that's like a goddamned
Susan Anthony dollar compared to $60 billion that is just routine going out to Halliburton. We might lose
if we went to war with Halliburton.

Bankrate: You are neighbors with Prince Bandar, the Saudi ambassador and longtime Bush family friend
featured in Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Hunter S. Thompson: I can see him from my front porch. He's been a pretty good neighbor; that counts for a
lot out here. He will shoot some skeet now and then. I don't want to say anything really ugly about him.
He's an enlightened plutocrat, I guess you call it. Michael Moore is dead right on that, and it's even worse
than you think. Bandar. All kinds of roads cross out here. Networks and wires.

Bankrate: The Bush Administration seems to have lit your fuse. Are you angry again?

Hunter S. Thompson: Very angry. I'm very angry. That's why I guess I have to write this (campaign) piece for
Rolling Stone. This is the darkest hour that I have seen in my long experience as an American. This is evil."
