Which country has the best and most independent press?
I don't know if it was ever the U.S., but it certainly couldn't be now...

I'm talking about major broadcast and print outlets and their online elements.

2. No, just an honest question that I don't know the answer to.
Maybe DUers living in other countries can shed light on this.

3. To be completely honest with you, US news is so amazingly bad
that I can't even compare foreign news sources. They all seem like perfection when compared to US corporate media. Britain, France, Germany... the media outlets throughout "old Europe" seem great to me.

4. That is actually a very good question. I would venture to guess:
maybe Costa Rica, Holland, Germany and France.....?? but actually I have no evidence for my guesstimations...

6. Well, I'd say UK, but there's admitted bias there...
...since I have more access to British news simply by virtue of sharing a language. But honestly, they do put out some of the most challenging, truth-centered journalism that I've seen (as well as some of the cheapest celebrity-worshipping trash, but that comes with the territory of free press, doesn't it?)

7. There was a list published about a month ago.
I don't remember who published it, and I'm on dial up, so I don't want to search for it.

Out of approx. 85 countries listed, the U.S. may have come out around 16th or 17th. We weren't at the bottom, but we certainly weren't at the top.

Look under tables and charts. It's PDF file.

It's not the list I saw a month ago, but it's similar.

10. I think I would have to say Denmark, along with Sweden and Norway.

I would think that the other two technically Scandinavian countries, Finland and Iceland, would be up there, too. They're good with freedom up there.

Edit: According to that list, I guess I'm right? :P 5 out of the top 6 are Scandinavian. Oh, I'm so proud.
