Plan to make Waterbury, CT "abortion free" fails
It seems that and an independent alderman proposed to make Waterbury an "abortion free" city because, as he said, "it was the right thing to do." But the proposal failed, 9 to 6. Go to www.wtnh.com
to get the story. The TV coverage of the gum chewing alderman appeared on our local news last night and this morning.

Waterbury has some interesting political characters, one of which is its previous mayor, Phil Giordano. As federal investigators were probing his administration on corruption charges, they discovered he was arranging for 2 little girls, 8 and 10, to be brought to his office for oral sex. He is now serving 37 years in prison. Oh yes, he was the Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in 2000, running against Joe Lieberman.

Then there is another Waterbury native, former CT governor John Rowland, who had to resign in the face of his own corruption charges.

I seem to faintly recall another Waterbury mayor who served, and maybe is still serving, time for corruption, but I can't remember the guy's name.

1. Six votes in favor of the proposal. Unbelievable.
I can understand the alderman voting for his ingeniousness and political savvy, but I don't get five other votes in favor, even if it's for political posturing to the citizenry.

2. Waterbury is already job free. The only thing pleasurable left is
being "killed" off by the kill joys of the right. Abortion free or free abortions?

3. That would be Santopeitro.
He was convicted in the late 80's of corruption. Led away in leg irons. I understand he was also into the nose stuff also.

Also before him (i think the name was burgen) was indicted but not convicted. He became mayor after santopeitro.

Lived in the waterbury area for a few years. it really hasnt changed.

4. Thanks. I was thinking of Santopietro
I recall he was an ugly customer but that was when I first came to CT in the 80s.

My former coworkers at Planned Parenthood tell me that nobody does abortions in Waterbury because of the political climate there.

But don't you just have to wonder that with all of the problems Waterbury has, this stupid (and obviously illegal)ban is just a big waste of hot air? This is a classic way the Republicans take the masses attention off of the economy, the joblessness and despair of places like Waterbury. It was described very well in the book "What's the Matter with Kansas?"

5. I recently moved out of bridgeport
and they used to stand and protest outside of the planned parenthood there. None of those people were from bridgeport. Samething probably happening in waterbury too.

6. Yep. And they're in New Haven a lot
especially Stanley Scott, the infamous former toll taker (when CT had toll booths)who lived all his life with his mother and claimed to be a virgin (the guy is probably 80). He's out there with these bizarre color photos he claims are of aborted fetuses in front of Planned Parenthood clinics in Bport and NH.

I worked for a women's clinic a few years back (not PP) and he was always there with his bullhorn. One of my vendors, a real big goodlooking guy, yelled to him, "Hey Stanley, how do you get a nun pregnant? Dress her like an altar boy!" Stanley chased him down the street with a crucifix on a stick. I laughed myself silly on that one.
