gay marriage is the ideology of evil
. . . according to the pope.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/02/23/pope.book.reut/index.html

'Homosexual marriages are part of "a new ideology of evil" that is insidiously threatening society, Pope John Paul says in his newly published book.'

How can someone who is supposed to be "good" be so completely blind and stupid, and incompetent to address the real future of his faith and following in a modern society?

A more important question is this: how on earth does the Catholic church envision their role in the future? I realize that from il Papa's very limited perspective and exposure, homosexuality is an affliction that satan has visited on his priesthood, but to be so extraordinarily out of touch that some devout catholic parent would come to the conclusion that their gay child was innately "evil" is blackest evil itself.

There is no reconciling the medieval catholic church in its current form with modern society. Perhaps that is why the catholic church is relatively strongest in societies in the developing world that haven't yet been "tainted" with the evil of human rights.

The only redeeming part is that when a pope gets old and addled enough, people start listening to his rantings selectively, in the same way we humored our own grandparents carrying on about the evil injuns and the evil yankees and the evil jerries and evil civil rights in the south and now the good old days before "the new ideology" of evil.

Jeeeeezus, save us from your followers.

2. Well, if anyone could accurately identify the "ideology of evil" it would
be the Pope. My apologies to the Catholics who don't support these type of radical statements as representive of their personal religious beliefs, but I'm tired of keeping my mouth shut in respect of other's beliefs when they bash me.

3. Ya think we Catholics like being associated with this guy?
When he's gone, reform'll take place. Be it still "pro-life" and "anti-gay", we may stop the male supremacy and allow priests to marry and allow women to be priests.

4. wasn't meant to be catholic bashing - just overt pope bashing
I realize that people take him with a grain of salt . . . here in the developed world.

I just get concerned when someone who is indisputably powerful and a leader says things that less enlightened people take as an excuse for hatred and bigotry, and worse, under the guise of "fighting evil".

5. sigh -- it's all so tiresome
gay bashing is so completely off the hook right now --
and then we have this -- back wards miscreant chiming in.

this isn't going to go any where good -- and i know he's trying to rally europes catholics against gay marriage.

but it's going to cause a great deal of pain.

it's all just so much superstitious tripe.

i have to believe that they think the third world countries will remain bogged down conservative christian outlooks -- and that is where they will derive support for the future.
but it ain't looking to good to me right now.

CELIBACY

How can we expect a celibate old man to know anything at all about the range of human sexuality or any of the joy or problems arising from it?

Catholics are taught to obey that still, small voice within, and that voice guides them in matters that no Pope can possibly know anything about, yet feels the need to prounounce upon endlessly.

In other words, Catholics generally have the brains to ignore the stupidity at the top and take the good things from their religion as they arise.

8. I guess genocide and his little evil disciples of pedophilia don't count
as evil? The reason the pope gets to continue to subversively undermine love and relationship building is because gays are succeeding in shining the light on bigotry and hate, all of which the pope condones. I think the pope is wrong, is off message and perpetuates evil in the guise of religion.

I turn my back on him, he can preach his message to his little disciples of thuggery.
