Hunter S. Thompson did not do snuff films...

Well, that is my opinion anyway. Let's start with the rumours;

...is really cranking into my second day of mourning for HST.

The whole rumour was seeded from a thread where people tried to link Gannon/Guckert himself with a missing lad (as in the same guy) by the name of Johnny Gosch who was allegedly a victim of Larry King (no, not the CNN King) as revealed by a Paul Bonacci in a book on the Franklyn Scandal written by John deCamp.

The snippet that has lit this fire started with this paragraph.

From The Franklin Cover-Up page 105:

"In other testimony, Paul Bonacci(one of the child victim/witnesses) said that Larry King(not the CNN LK), was smiling and laughing the whole time the film was being shown, and "the men with hoods" were a Satanic group which planned to use the dead boy in some sort of ceremony. Bonacci also named the director of the snuff film, whom they had picked up in Las Vegas, as "Hunter Thompson".

and it's being referenced in a number of places on the net with accusations being levelled at Hunter S. Thompson - as being a satanistic ritual killer who enjoys pumping the odd snuff movie out whilst hanging around the desert outside of Vegas.

For some strange reason I don't feel HST is rolling over in his grave - in fact, he would probably love this slant, come to think of it.


IMHO,

1. There is nothing that indicates that "Hunter Thompson" is in fact - Hunter S. Thompson. And HST spent very little time in Vegas.

I mean, we have our own "DrGonzo" here on DU. If he had something public, good or bad, under that moniker, would ANYONE think it was the real Hunter Thompson. The good doctor had a lot of imitators, and a lot of folks tried to use his name, his style, and his reputation.

Why can't they have some respect for the greatest journalist of the last century and maybe ever....
