1. I don't see it myself

Frankly that sounds like the right thing to do. Courts should be a last resort to deal with companies or doctors who screw up and refuse to make amends. A far better solution is for them to admit their mistake and promptly pay for it.

3. This is the part in the movie

where I do a spit take. I don't see doctors admitting fault nor freely offering compensation. Why do you think there are lawsuits now? If they admitted they were wrong and offered money, people wouldn't sue. Hello. :think:

8. Thank you for explaining that to me.

Your condescension helped me understand your point better.

But I think the article makes clear that this would be a new program, not a reflection of what is already happening. Not all doctors are assholes--some do make compensation. And this program would apparently encourage more of this type of behaivor.

6. i guess

i can't shake the feeling that i was reading an advertorial that was tring to pass itself off as a news piece.

lots of malpractice awards help patients with long term damage caused by a doctor or when a doctor is actually negligent.

4. Juries tend to be generous with non-compensatory damages

pain and suffering etc. Sounds like they want to limit damage awards to the compensatory kind.

And when the doctor amputates a person's right leg instead of the left leg that needed it, (this happened some years ago) just how will the doctor saying "I'm sorry" help that person? And how much compensation will the doctor be willing to pay? Like in the Erin Brockovitch movie where she asked the company representative, "Just how much is your spine worth? or your uterus?" Sheesh!

Corporate personhood needs to be revoked! It is ruining our country & the planet. Unfortunately, I don't believe this will ever happen.
