Oh the SILENCE of the G.O.P. Morality Police! Ken Starr, we need you now!
remember henry 'youthful indiscretion' hyde wailing about the immoral President Clinton and how the whole fucking world had to stop and impeach his lowly shameful immoral ass? remember all that wailing and screaming about how we had to restore honor and dignity back to the oval office, and the born again bloviating about morality and family values? REMEMBER ALL THAT?

and remember that 80 million in tax dollars we spent trying to get him on some crime or minor screw up, and ken starr and the government shutting down for two whole years? do the MORALITY POLICE remember that?

and the horrifically immoral naked human female mammalian protuberance on our t.v.'s during a sacred super bowl game? oh the outrage and the heavy fines from the MORALITY POLICE!

"911-911---is this the MORALITY POLICE? we've got a serious situation in the white house---a gay prostitute working as a fake reporter in cahoots with the whole bush crew was caught red handed and is probably hugely black-mailable and a breech of security---can you get over here FAST"?

"hello----hello----morality police?-----can you hear me?----

1. Infuriating
Isn't it?

And there's nothing we can do.

Morality is a useful tool only when the people that run the show want it to be.

3. In another thread they said the Independent counsel was dismissed because
it became a with hunt. Here is an excerpt from Findlaw.com Sorry for the lack of link. I put in Independent + counsel george + bush on GOOGLE

Why the Independent Counsel Law Was Allowed to Expire

To begin, some background is in order. The Independent Counsel law was enacted by Congress in 1978, in the aftermath of Watergate. By creating a type of prosecutor who would be independent of the Department of Justice, Congress sought to assure Americans that high level officials could be investigated, and, if necessary, prosecuted, free of any conflicts of interest.

This law was re-enacted on three occasions (with only slight modifications): 1983, 1987, and 1994. In renewing the law in 1994, Congress ignored Judge Scalia's prescient dissent in Morrison v. Olson, which anticipated how the law might be abused and argued that the law was unconstitutional. (Judge Starr agrees with Scalia on this point. Indeed, he has testified against the law.)
It created witch hunts. I dont' know how an investigation with possible impeachment could be done against George Bush. That is one question that nags at me.

The law expired on June 30, 1999. By then, Republicans and Democrats alike concluded that it was an experiment that had not worked; so did the Justice Department, which recommended that it be allowed to expire.

The law had several fatal problems. First, it had a hair trigger: It was too easily invoked. As a result, over $200 million was spent on sundry inquiries with nominal results.

Second, it failed to serve its purpose of making the public more confident about the government; it was making the public more cynical instead. The public witnessed how the IC laws' operation was tinged throughout with politics - the very taint the law had sought to remove.

Third, it seemed to invite harassment: Some independent counsels treated high government officials like low-life Mafia figures -- investigating them endlessly until some violation was found, or until a violation (in the form of a cover-up, or a false, misleading, or incomplete statement) occurred as a result of the Independent Counsel's investigaition.

8. I sometimes think..
.... that the entire harassment cycle inflicted on the Clintons was done solely to get rid of the Independent Counsel law.

The Repugs knew they would always be vulnerable as long as there was some accountability, so they eviscerated it.

And the dumbass Dems let them do it.

5. You're not the first to notice OR do anything about it
This is funny:

They were livid over SpongeBob Square Pants' participation in a video advocating tolerance, and fuming about Buster the Bunny's visit to a lesbian household. So where's the outrage from the Christian right over the Jeff Gannon Affair? Despite a chunk of time having passed since the Gannon Affair was first uncovered, Christian right organizations are still cloaked in silence. As of February 24, there wasn't any news about the Gannon Affair available on the Web sites of Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, the American Family Association, or the Traditional Values Coalition. As best as I could determine, no special alerts about the Gannon Affair have been issued; and no campaigns have been launched to get to the bottom of the matter.

Curious about this wall of silence, I phoned several Christian right groups on Tuesday, February 22, hoping to find someone who could comment on the Gannon Affair. This is what I found:

# Dr. James Dobson's Focus on the Family: I filled out an interview form and waited to hear back. Several hours later, a FotF administrative assistant called me to say that no one there could answer my questions about Gannon. She said a lot of folks were out sick and no one was available. "Would someone be available tomorrow or Thursday," I asked. She pointed out that no one would be available the following day or the day after to talk about this issue. "Next week?" "No."

# The Family Research Council: I spoke with Amber Hildebrand, FRC's Media Director. She said "We haven't made any public comments about this. There have been other pressing issues that have taken precedent, although this came as a shock to FRC." Hildebrand said she would see if FRC's Vice President of Government Affairs Connie Mackey, would talk with me. At press time (Thursday evening) Mackey has not called.

9. This is definitely mass email material
Let's go people. We need to act in the same manner the right does, (except they spread lies) by mass mailing things. Remember that guy who wrote the book about how the conservatives took over? He said they did it by MASS MAIL.

Letting people know that the religious right cares more about Sponge Bob being gay than Jeff Jim Gannon Gerkhart is BIG TIME STUFF.

Don't make me be the only one who's going to get a bunch of hate mail please!

7. Now don't be silly.
Morality, as per Straus, is for the peons, to keep them in thier place. The Rightful Ruling Class has no need for it.

I had been led to believe by them there librul teachers in my youth that our country was established in defiance of this precept. In some ways it seems like we're witnessing a second 'Restoration'. If I remember my history correctly, Charles II was just about as incompetent as *.

16. The hypocrisy of these Charlatans defies reason.
I get mystified when I try to consider why someone would support these thugs. What possible basis could they have?

You are right about Bill Clinton. However, he has begun to piss me off. The Monica thing never meant a thing to me, but his recent love affair with the bush family is truly disgusting.

I understand that he is trying to mend the fence for the betterment of our nation, but what makes him think that the bushtapo will not simply exploit him and eventually sink their fangs into his neck once again.

I do wish he would have rallied Democrats alone for tsunami relief. He NEVER should have associated himself with the republicans.

Let those fascist bastards try to squeeze a few bucks out of their own for the suffering of dark skinned folks. It would have made quite a picture, kill several thousand in Iraq and Afghanistan, save a few thousand for Jesus in Sir Lanka. Their donation coffers would still be empty.
