Jeff Gannon Still A Reporter to FOX News. Will That Be His Next Gig?

The Houston Chronicle refers to Jeff Gannon a/k/a James Guckert as "an alleged journalist who used a pseudonym to gain access to White House briefings and news conferences." The Minneapolis Star-Tribune calls him a "phony journalist... reporting for a phony Web site, has no real journalism training and is a $200-an-hour gay prostitute. He ran numerous Web sites like militaryescortsm4m. com. The photos of Gannon that were displayed on those Web sites left nothing to the imagination about his physical attributes." FOXNews.com describes him as "a White House reporter who recently resigned following questions about his identity and background."

Although FOX News reports that Gannon "gained access to White House press briefings over two years despite having no journalism background and using a false name," it also says that he "was the Washington bureau chief for Talon News (and) recently resigned amid questions about his identity and background. He said on his Web site that he was leaving 'because of the attention being paid to me.' Talon News is a conservative online news outlet associated with the website." What "Real Journalism" FOX News doesn't mention is that Talon was created just a few days before Gannon/Guckert first applied for his White House press pass and is now on hiatus.

I can almost see the honchos at FOX News agonizing over how to report this story (which they have largely ignored) with an angle that doesn't tarnish their precious Bush administration too badly. Not surprisingly, they resorted to their fall-back excuse: Gannon is the victim of liberals.
<snip>
Comment: Apparently, the folks at FOX News just can't find a conservative they don't like. According to Media Matters, Sean Hannity has called Gannon "A terrific Washington bureau chief and White House correspondent for Talon News." Can a job offer be far behind?

1. Talon News never amounted to much.
Indeed, I never heard of them until the scandal broke.

And strictly speaking he isn't a phoney journalist, because there is no official qualification for a journalist besides getting hired.

Fox, on the other hand is a "powerhouse". Whatisname will find a job there or somewhere comparable now that he has achieved notoriety.

I'm not very interested in him. I am *very* interested in what went on at the White House press office. That's where the real scandal is.

3. The first time I ever heard of Talon
was during the coverage of last year's Democratic National Convention. I found the tipoff right here on DU. The "reporter", instead of tossing softballs, was tossing drano-soaked snowballs. The fact that Talon was a Reptilican hack with NO journalistic standing, was mentioned here. I'm sure that Gannon (NOT Guckert) was mentioned, but I don't specifically recall it.

4. Strictly speaking he has never been hired by a real news outlet

Qualifications not withstanding, he also was not a free lancer because he has never submitted any articles for publication. He was a man posing as a journalist and working for a political group posing as a news outlet.

... not the first partisan hack to be a journalist. The reporters on the New York Sun, for instance. Or Fox, of course.

And many journlists started out in some other line of work. :eyes: }(

9. Talon was created to get Guckert/Gannon into the press room.
It had only been "up" for a couple of days when the scandal broke. It has now been shown that he was actally in the press room earlier, without the cover of a "news source".

Oh.. Welcome to DU!

2. Most conservatives can't find a conservative they don't like
I believe a large majority of them would favor right-leaning toxic pondscum over a liberal.

6. Your theory has been proven
correct. Ann Coulter has a following. So does Tom DeLay, Jonah Goldberg, Robert Novak, Bill Kristol, Phyllis Schafley...any number of "conservatives" who are completely unable to ever see any issue from a viewpoint not mired in their own narrow-mindedness. Every day, Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, Don Imus, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly and countless others make a living distorting reality so their "conservative"audiences won't have to deal with ambiguity. Jeff Gannon/Guckert was able to carve out a career based on conservative ignorance. He merely copied and pasted press releases while lobbing softball questions to his lost-in-high-weeds leader, GWB. It's the lowest common denominator ideology. I don't think, therefore I am. A conservative.

7. The reason Faux still thinks Gannon/Guckert is a journalist is because
he's no less qualified than almost all of the hacks they have on the payroll.
