I think emails have become a medium for the right

Of all the crap emails I get (and I get a lot), over half have a right-wing "point" to make - that taking "under God" out of the Pledge of Allegience" is wrong and will get your ass kicked, etc. etc. NEVER anythig negative about President Monkeysmirk

Today I get this email with a list of "Brain Cramps", or stupid quotes. And whose quotes are on the list? Among the sports stars and Miss Americas are Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore.

And who is missing? Who do you think?

So I went out and found 20 Bushisms, and sent back a "reply to all" saying "Hillary, Bill and Al on the list, but none from the Genius in Chief??? How about these:...."

What's frustrating is the sender is a Democrat, and most of the recipients at our office are as well. She just mindlessly forwards this stuff, without really thinking about the content.

considering the fact that it is our only voice nowadays...I see your point. They are mindless and it leaves at least an electron trail of their stupidity. On the other hand, it gives us a chance to leave a trail of our deep thinking. Just something to think about...

I've had people to do that to me on IRC. I keep lists of Quayle and Bush howlers bookmarked for just such occasions.

The right really are stupid, and most of them have memories that go back only as far as the last Lamebawl broadcast. It's up to us to jog their failing memories.

It has been a very powerful tool of the right and I think is the main reason for the turn to conservatism. People believe these things and when I send them the snopes.com link setting them straight, they are surprised, then turn around and send me another one. They are very subtle and I heard somewhere that a person from Falwell's college is one of the main suppliers of these false emails. We need to get someone to send out emails from our side. Fight fire with fire!

Post some of the identifying info in the emails, if you can.

They send venom, bullshit, lies, and overblown propaganda to each other, and then quote the emails like they are irrefutable fact.

My favorites?

The one with Ollie North talking about bin Laden during Iran Contra, and how Al Gore is attacking poor Ollie and can't pronounce bin Laden's name.
Of course, it was proven to be bullshit, and even Ollie himself said it was completely untrue, but it is still being circulated to this day.

Also, the one about verse 9:11 in the Quran. Something about "And the eagle swept in and killed the serpent in the desert" or some lame shit like that. Then the email says "Saddam should have listened to his religion".
Of course, it overlooks two basic facts: One, Saddam and Iraq did not attack us, bin Laden and Saudi Arabia did. And, two (more importantly), 9:11 of the Quran doesn't say anything even remotely close to what they are quoting in the email. Five seconds at google will tell you that. Yet this email is still being circulated.
