Did College Republicans get funding from Rev. Moon at one time?

I posted this article the other day because of Parry's brilliant essay on Bush's Managed Democracy. It dropped pretty quickly.

Since the College Republicans have become so vocal lately, I remembered this part from the article. I also found an essay with more on this from Arianna Huffington.

The College Republicans are on guard to sue professors who don't toe the line on their view of conversatism. Professors often run scared of them in some areas.

Terry Dolan was part of the earlier College Republican generation -- from the same period as Morton Blackwell and Karl Rove and Lee Atwater.

The Right's "defend Moon campaign" dated back to the late 1970s when an investigation by a House subcommittee headed by Rep. Fraser, a Minnesota Democrat, discovered that Moon had participated in the "Koreagate" influence-buying scheme. ... In pro-Moon publications, Fraser and his staff were pilloried as leftists. Anti-Moon witnesses were assailed as unstable liars. Minor bookkeeping problems inside Fraser's investigation, such as Fraser's salary advances to some staff members, prompted letters demanding an ethics probe of the congressman.

One of those letters, dated June 30, 1978, was written by John T. "Terry" Dolan of the National Conservative Political Action Committee (NCPAC). At the time, Dolan's group was pioneering the strategy of "independent" TV attack ads. In turn, Moon's CAUSA International helped Dolan by contributing $500,000 to another Dolan group, known as the Conservative Alliance or CALL.

Abramoff was in the College Republicans in the early 80's, along with Norquist and Ralph Reed. In 1984-85, he served as executive director of Citizens for America, a pro-Reagan lobbying group headquartered at the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation, in turn, has been receiving Moon money for decades (most of it technically coming from the Korean government), starting in the early 80's.

Especially between the late 70's and the late 80's, Moon's presence was everywhere on the right. Since then, he seems to have pulled away from the New Right somewhat and to be using other channels of influence.

I am getting concerned about all this. A bill was introduced in Florida to stifle professors, and the legislator was influenced by David Horowitz. This makes me very interested in connections among these groups.

I am going to post that bill as a separate post because it infuriates me so.
