It's a Newsweek press release.

"But the real reason, said USA Next's CEO Charlie Jarvis, was pure political provocation. The ad was a "test," Jarvis said, to see whether "left-wing bloggers" would "focus entirely on one image and explode about it. My guess was right.""

As truth wins out, I say BRING IT ON!

3. I hope they PAY for their "test"
I'm hoping that friends of the gay couple whose marriage photograph was stolen and used in the anti-AARP ad find a way to litigate these soulless swine into some form of contrition.

8. It was a Republican Party test to see how far they could go

demonizing our parents and grandparents without anyone speaking out.

Honor thy Father and Mother, do not bear false witness...at the rate the Republican Party is paring down the Commandments there won't be anything left to post outside the courthouse.

Just sent to Letters@newsweek.com

13. Karl Rove, America Next and Sun Tzu
From The Art of War by Sun Tzu

<snip>

Thus, one who is skilled at making the enemy move does so by creating a situation, according to which the enemy will act. He entices the enemy with something he is certain to want. He keeps the enemy on the move by holding out bait and then attacks him with picked troops.

How subtle and insubstantial, that the expert leaves no trace. How divinely mysterious, that he is inaudible. Thus, he is master of his enemy's fate. His offensive will be irresistible if he makes for his enemy's weak positions; he cannot be overtaken when he withdraws if he moves swiftly. When I wish to give battle, my enemy, even though protected by high walls and deep moats, cannot help but engage me, for I attack a position he must relieve. When I wish to avoid battle, I may defend myself simply be drawing a line on the ground; the enemy will be unable to attack me because I divert him from going where he wishes.

<snip>

Therefore, analyze the enemy's plans so that you will know his shortcomings as strong points. Agitate him in order to ascertain the pattern of his movement. Lure him out to reveal his dispositions and ascertain his position. Launch a probing attack in order to learn where his strength is abundant and where deficient. The ultimate in disposing one's troops is to conceal them without ascertainable shape. Then the most penetrating spies cannot pry nor can the wise lay plans against you. It is according to the situations that plans are laid for victory, but the multitude does not comprehend this. Although everyone can see the outward aspects, none understands how the victory is achieved. Therefore, when a victory is won, one's tactics are not repeated. One should always respond to circumstances in an infinite variety of ways.

2. A test ?
What did they find out?

That lefty bloggers would object? Or is the goal to see if the lefty blogs can push an offensive add into the mainstream?

Something to think about

7. The bloggers may "pushed" an offensive ad into the mainstream
Edited on Sun Feb-27-05 09:02 PM by rocknation
But they did so by pointing out how offensive it WAS. There may be so much thing as bad publicity, but how is this "test" a win for USA Next?

4. Sure, it was just a "test".
Apparently, these guys think everyone else is as stupid as they are.

Who puts out a "test" to see if they'll look like a homophobic moron? Does that require a test?

No, c'mon- these are amateur morons trying to be Karl Rove. Their last media push was full of obvious bullshit as well. It only worked because the corporate media helped it along, and Kerry ran an incompetent campaign.

12. Not to the same degree, no.
I've no doubt that the Wolf Blitzers of the world will happily ingest and regurgitate their anti-AARP propaganda if it's slick enough, but this ad wasn't. It was a sloppy hatchet job.

5. Well, I guess it's as good an excuse as any to
try to cover up the fact that they made fools of themselves and found out old people and the bloggers weren't the fools they thought they were.

I'll remember that the next time I accidently mess something up at work. "That was just a test, boss. I wanted to see how you'd react to my mistake."

11. I didn't know
That you can just make offensive, potentially slanderous statements about individuals and groups and get out of any kind of repercussions by just saying you were "testing' the opposition.

That's great! I'm all for seeing how inflammatory statements affect those they are directed against.

Here, I'm going to do a test. I suggest everyone else do it too:

USANext is an organization that is run and supported, to a person, by child molesting Satanist communists, who have given money DIRECTLY to Osama Bin Laden. They hate all Americans, including themselves, and are devoted to the complete destrution of the entire planet by nuclear war.

Kim Jong Il formed this organization to destroy America and blow up the planet so his alien masters, who need a highly radioactive atmosphere to survive, will be able to take over.

Oh, by the way, they kick puppies too.

This is just a test.
