Why don't Conservatives ever take aim at soap operas?
If they feel it necessary to take aim at entertainment that they feel indoctrinates children to violence and loose sexual morals wouldn't that be a good place to start? Why do these family value groups never go after them?

1. Hmm ... maybe their Proctor & Gamble stock?
Just a joke because, you're right, they seem blind to them. And kids can DEFINITELY watch them during the day, especially if their parents are at work ... You think they'd be outraged by the plots involving teenage sex (even lesbian sex, oh my!, pregancy, drug/alcohol abuse, cheating, murder ...

3. because when it's simple minded, repetitive total drivel, it appeals to
them.
sorry SO fans, i know you're addicted, but it's not exactly an art form, is it?
and it's not at all entertaining until you are addicted.

6. Because of the Gap
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 04:23 PM by iLoveKPOJ
Soap Opera repubs are kind of like Geoffery Moore's gap in "Crossing the Chasm". (This is a geek reference, by the way).

Early technology adopters = the rich fat cats spreading the "sex is Eeeeeevil" gospel

Technology adoption Gap = the working Middle class

Growth of Technology = Soap Opera watchers and others who would rather hush their recognition of their desire to watch "Housewives" and buy the latest issue of that Tabloid at the checkout.

8. That's kinda what I am thinking.
They are chipping away at the things that many object to for now. They aren't going to go after the big dogs like soaps because so many of their followers enjoy them, and a move on them would make them take a pause and question.

We really should be making people question what their next step will be. Today it is rap music and cuss words on TV, tomorrow it's soap operas and action films.

7. Cuz if they weren't there to watch...
people might spend their time on DU and learn sumthin instead. Then after learnin' sumthin... next thing ya know, they start gettin' outraged. Then they start seeking REAL news and information. Then they start tellin' others, then maybe even taking action. Uh-oh!!!! Best keep that mind-pablum goin'.

The taste of Republican butt does not improve with age.

"The NeoCons can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They do not feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.
