"The Panama Deception"
I just watched this film last night, and it was absolutely amazing. It tells the story of what really happened during Operation Just Cause back in '89, when we went and nabbed Noriega.

The most amazing thing that I found in viewing it was that if you replaced the words "Panama" with "Iraq", and "Noriega" with "Saddam" it's like you're watching a film about Operation Iraqi Freedom; same lies, same propoganda, same media collusion; hell, there's even a Bush involved.....not to mention a Cheyney and a Powell.

It's a really sad story, that'll piss you off to no end. It's no wonder most of the rest of world has a rather poor view of America.

.....and Bunnypants says "they hate us because of our freedoms".

12. Governor, not of Panama
Edited on Sat Jul-12-03 05:37 PM by The Backlash Cometh
He was Govenor of the Canal Zone and President of the Panama Canal Co. He wore two hats. His last day was September 30, 1979.

And his name is Parfitt.

4. "not cool"
is probably the biggest understatement that could be made in relation to what happened.

My husband told me that quite some time ago. It's hard for me to get my head around that kind of thinking sometimes.

is good example of how our imperialistic foreign policy is essentially fucking up the world.....we basically created the country to suit our purposes then destroyed it for the same reasons.

Not to mention that one of reasons we invaded was so that Bush could do away with his "wimp factor", and prove what a tough guy he was.

9. Im suprised folks still remember Panama...
That was a real transparent intervention. It seems to be mostly forgotten these days.

I did see that movie and it was a pretty good muckraking/expose thing. I recall it was sort of controversial when it first came out, but dont recall why.

15. it was all about COCAINE
MR Noriega arrested some bankers that were the primary cali cartel money launders. he was favoring the mediean cartel...i guess the CIA was siding with the cali's.. and also there was some rumor about a ship full of AK47's, amo, and land mines from East Germany bought with the Raygun money from selling 250 stinger missiles to terrist nation Iran, the ship was stopped in the panama canel heading for the contras to be traded for cocaine... anyway one of the bankers Noriega arrested was made president of Panama after the 'war'. and the drug trafic increased by a factor of 5..... POP QUIZzzzzzz, what was Noriega convicted of and what was his sentence, where is he??? considering how CNN covers it all all the time .....we should all get 100%

Panamanians to capture, charge, try (some say in the absence legal standing), and incarcerate one man?
